Rider Updates

Sep 15 2010

Jasyn Roney, who is in Year 1 at St Mary’s Catholic School in Boyup Brook, has been riding since he was two-and-a half.

Jasyn’s mother Elizabeth Roney said Jasyn was not nervous and had not yet grasped the significance of his achievement.

"He doesn’t get why everyone is so keen on what he’s doing," she said.

"I wouldn’t be a decent mother if I said it didn’t make me nervous at all.

"But he knows what he’s doing."

Jasyn has two older brothers and a younger sister, all of whom ride.

"They’re really happy Jasyn’s doing it," Ms Roney said.

Jasyn has been practising on a purpose-built track at the family’s home and will complete a 20m jump at the Burswood Dome show.

He will perform alongside a host of exciting motocross riders including one of his favourites, Australian Robbie Maddison, when the tour kicks off in Perth on October 16.

Jasyn, who is 120cm tall and weighs 20kg, will be part of the Crusty Demons Thirst 4 Destruction tour and is the group's youngest rider in its 16-year history.

Despite this, the Year 1 student is not nervous - he has been riding since he was just two years old.

"If he is nervous he certainly doesn't show it," Ms Roney said.

"He is pretty cool, calm and collected when he gets on his bike.

"He knows better than the rest of us if something isn't quite right and he will pull out. He hears it and feels it and he is in-tune with his bike."

Jasyn rides a KTM 50cc bike which can reach 80 km/h and has been practising on a track his father Michael built around their home at Wilga, in the South-West.
