Rider Updates
Jun 23 2008
Hot Summer Nights lived up to its name, as it was 110 in the pits when practice started on Saturday. The gate dropped for moto 1 and 25 bikes ripped down the start straight. I went into the first turn 5th, and by the end of the first lap had moved into 2nd. Early in the second lap I made the pass for the lead and held on for several laps. With one lap to go I lost the lead when I got bumped, and then I tightened up and lost another position in the second to last corner.
Moto 2 started the same, and by the end of the first lap I was up to third. Unfortunately the race got red flagged the next lap because of a down rider in the track. I got a better start the second time, and was back into 2nd before the end of the first lap. I knew the leader hadn't finished well in the first moto, and so I was pretty sure I had the overall locked up.
Overall it was a very good weekend and I am looking forward to the rest of the series.

Its been about 2 months now since I picked up a new 2008 KTM 250 SX-F from All American KTM. Since then I have been adjusting to the smaller bike and getting it set up. All of this has been to get ready to race Hot Summer Nights at Perris in the next few months. I feel great on the bike and I'm really looking forward to racing it this coming summer.

It all came down to the last 2 rounds at Glen Helen. Saturday started off good, with a charge from the back in Moto 1 that gave me the win. Moto 2 started with a holeshot, but later that lap I went down and gave up the lead. I finished the day 2nd overall, but didn't change my points standing at all.
Sunday started with another holeshot and after leading most of the race I finished 2nd. More importantly I moved into 2nd in points with a 2 point advantage over 3rd place. In moto 2 I led the class into Talladega for my 3rd holeshot of the weekend only to go down later that lap. After getting back up in 3rd, I rode there to the end and finished 3rd overall for the day.
Sundays results sealed 2nd for me in the overall standings for the 8 race Vet X fall series.

Last weekend I returned to the starting gate for the first time in almost 4 months. I didn't know what to expect with most of the other riders on the gate being new to the series. Overall I rode well, and now I know what I need to work on before the Fall series opens up in late September. I ended up going 4-5 for 4th overall in my class.

This weekend will mark my return to racing. After the Vet X Spring series was over, I took a little break from riding all together. That could only last so long, and I have been back on the bike for about 6 weeks. I am excited to get back on the track and prepare for the Fall racing season. This weekend I will be racing at Glen Helen.

Round 2 of the Vet X Spring Series this weekend at Cahuilla Creek. This will be my second race at what I consider one of my home tracks. I'm looking forward to putting last weekend behind me and running at the front of my class.
