Personal History
I have always enjoyed riding a dirt bike. From the Gemini 50 to my Husky FC250, it has always brought a smile to my face. Unfortunately, life has not cooperated much over the years. My childhood years were a little mixed up which resulted in no motocross racing until age 30.
My golden years of racing lasted all but 5 years in the 30+ class of racing mostly in Nevada. With a young family and a move to northern Idaho, there was not much time for motocross.
It has been 15 years before racing was again a possibility here in 2018. This happened when I bought a 2015 YZ250 2-stroke in April. It has been fun getting reacquainted with my skills or lack of. By July, I was off to the Oregon and Washington rounds of the OTMX series in the 50+ Intermediate class. Not only was it an opportunity to ride a bucket list track, Washougal, but test my skills against many seasoned riders. I had never seen either of the tracks in my life. With 10 minutes of practice time, I was going head to head with 36 other riders mostly on big bore 4-strokes. Starts were a challenge and the uphills resulted in lots of roost and a smoked clutch. The track at Wards Creek had similar challenges although my new clutch held up better.
August resulted in me stumbling across a 2017 FC250. I picked it up to see how I would like a 4-stroke. It has been amazing. The bike corners like nothing I have ridden before. I can switch lines mid-corner and it sticks. The high compression and ported motor has lots more torque and power than the YZ. I am really looking forward to 2019 race season.
Over these years I have raised a family and build a fabulous career in higher education. I am now able to focus on my riding, having fun, competing, and getting into great shape again. For me, motocross is the best full body workout available. I get to have fun and work those muscles without even feeling like I am working out. That is, until the next day soreness kicks in!
Riding Goals
I really enjoy relaxing at the track, meeting new people, testing new set-ups, and getting better as a rider. I practice two to three weekends a month and race a couple of weekends a month. This is such a great way to get into fantastic condition.
2020 has been really odd so far. The Old Timer series has been canceled. Not many places to ride. Lucky that the local tract at Horn Rapids is doing the Black Widow Series.
Competitive Highlights
3rd Overall for the Black Widow Series 2019 in 50+ Class.
