Rider Updates

Jan 8 2011

After 4 months off the bike, I got the chance to race the Pasco Arenacross race the first weekend in January.  I was a little tentative in practice and my first qualifier, but everything started coming back by the time gate dropped for the main event.  I was even able to holeshot a couple of my races this weekend!  Unfortunately, I just didn't have the stamina to stay with the leader.  I'm super happy with second place and looking forward to the snow melting and being able to get back on an outdoor track soon!  Thanks to all my sponsors for sticking with me through the injury and continuing to help me out in 2011!

While practicing for the continuation of the black widow and desert thunder series on Saturday, I had a pretty big crash.  After several days in the hospital and a couple of CT scans, I was released, under the condition that I couldn't do any activities including jogging, jumping, running, etc., for the next 3 months.  It was determined that I severely ruptured my spleen in the crash.  I am extremely bummed that I won't be able to complete the series, especially after working so hard to get into first place.  Although, I still have my P.R.O. championship to enjoy for the year.  I look forward to December when I can start getting back into shape and start practicing for next spring.  I'm sure 2011 will be even better than 2010!  Thanks to all of my sponsors for the support this year, I couldn't have done it without you.  I hope that I can work with all of you again in 2011.

After an average Saturday of racing in a triple moto format, I managed to put together a great day of racing on Sunday.  I rode as fast as I ever have, managing to not only win both of my classes, but also beat some of the 65's we were riding with.  All in all, a great day of racing.  Since Sunday was  a double points format, I managed to take over the points lead in the open class and open up a pretty large points lead in my 4-6 class.  If I can stay on this pace, it should make for a very successful season.

Tyler rode extremely well this weekend!  He is already at the same speed that he finished last season at, which is a huge improvement over last year at this time.  He got first overall for his class on both days.  The open class was the real storyteller though.  His 6th overall for both days put him finishing in the top 3 of the junior class if he were racing that class!

This series takes a short break before the next round in Spokane.  In the meantime, the BlackWidow series starts on April 18th.  Tyler is excited as always and can't wait to get back on the track!

Tyler finished first overall for his class on Saturday and second overall for his class on Sunday out of 8 riders.  He finished 10th overall in the open class and rode a bit on the tentative side.  Unfortunately, Tyler lost a good friend in a motorcycle accident 3 days before this race and I think he is still pretty upset about it.  considering all of this, I think he rode pretty well.

Tyler raced in the Pasco arenacross for the first time ever.  After walking the track, I could tell he was a little nervous as the jumps were very peaked and the whoops looked big......especially to a 6 year old.  He made it through both practices without crashing and was gaining confidence on each lap.  His first moto was for the 50cc Open class and he finished a very respectable 5th place out of 11 riders.  His second race was for the 50cc 4-6 class and he finished 2nd place out of 4 riders.  The third race was for the 50cc Open again.  We were confused on when he was suppose to race so we ended up getting geared up, heading to the start gate only to turn back around, take his helmet off and wait 3 times before we finally figured it out.  There were a lot of LCQ races that were held in between the first and second motos and every time we thought that was the last one, there were 2 or 3 more.  Well, he finally got lined up for the 2nd moto of the 50cc Open class, had a pretty good start but got hung up in the first turn.  He was never able to recover from that and settled for 8th place for the night.  The second 50cc 4-6 moto was the last race of the night and you could tell he wanted to redeem himself for the previous moto.  He almost got the holeshot and chased the first place rider around for 5 laps.  He held

We had another very successful weekend of racing.   This was the last weekend of racing at HRMC and had a triple moto format for Saturday and a double points format for Sunday.  In the 50cc 3-8 class, Tyler went 1-1-1 on Saturday and 1-1 on Sunday to clinch the championship for the season.  In the 50cc Open class on the big track, he got 5th overall for both days out of 12 riders.  There were a couple of AMA national champions there this weekend that raced in his class and took the top 2 spots.  There was a kid from Spokane that isn't in the series points race but is fast nonetheless who took third.  That left the usual front runner in this class with fourth and Tyler with fifth.  We are especially proud of his performance on Sunday.  In moto 1, he was in a 3 way battle for 4th.  He had the position on the last lap for a split second but had a slight bobble and couldn't hold onto it, which is why he placed 5th.  However, he did hold off the hard charging 6th place rider while battling with the fourth place rider.  In moto 2, he was in 5th place for a majority of the race.  He started out in 8th place after a bad first turn, but quickly raced up to fifth place.  Unfortunately, fourth place was too far gone to catch in 3 laps.  He even had gapped 6th place far enough to fall over in a corner, remount his bike and still take 5th place.  It has been a long season, but he has improved by leaps and bounds.  It's great to see how much all the kids have improved this year and we are looking forward to another great season in 2010.  Tyler will be racing at the arenacross race in Pasco next weekend for the last race of 2009.

Tyler had a good morning grabbing second place off of the gate and through the first couple of turns on the MX track.  After a couple of bobbles in the first half a lap, he was passed twice to put him in fourth place.  He quickly caught back up to third place and although he kept the pressure on, he just couldn't make the pass.

At halftime, the racing action moves to the pee-wee track where he is leading his class in the championship for the 3-8 stk 50 cc class.  He placed first in the first moto and second overall in the second moto.  Since there are multiple classes ran at the same time on the pee-wee track, he actually got first place in the second moto since the other rider wasn't in his class.  Coincidentally, the other rider that beat him is his best friend and they end up battling back and forth on the MX track almost every race.

The second moto on the MX track was nothing short of awesome with a little luck mixed in.  He got an OK start that put him mid pack in 4th position.  About half way through the first lap, the 2nd place rider (his best friend) went down in a corner putting Tyler in 3rd place.  At the very end of the first lap, the 2nd place rider fell over in a corner handing him 2nd place.  The now third place rider got right back up and was within one bike length as they crossed the finish line of the first lap.  Those two riders battled hard and were never more than just a couple of bike lengths apart for the next two laps.  Every time the third place rider would pull along side or even get past Tyler, he found another burst of speed and would get back in front.  Tyler managed to hang on to 2nd place in the second moto for 3rd overall in the 50cc Open class.

We were very proud of the effort he showed today and are impressed with the extra speed he found when he really needed it.

A long summer series was wrapped up this weekend in Richland Washington at the Horn Rapids Motocross Complex.  The "Desert Thunder" series, which consists of 9 races under the lights at their supercross style track, finished this last weekend with a triple moto format with double points.  Although he had come down with a terrible cold, he begged his parents to let him race and was able to get third overall with 3-4-3 moto finishes.  His parents are very proud of him and amazed at his progress this year.

After holding on for third place in the first moto of the 50 cc Open class and going 1-1 in the 50 cc Beginner stock class, a seemingly rare bike malfunction ended his second moto early.  The second moto of the 50 cc Open class started off well and Tyler was running in third place until late in the moto, when a transmission failure brought his bike to screeching halt.  With just a little more than a lap to go, he coasted off the side of the track and was obviously dejected when the bike couldn't be quickly fixed.  Although we were proud of him for being a good sport and still congratulating the other competitors in his class.

Dad had a long week of pulling the motor out of the bike, but got it fixed just in time to make the last race of the Desert Thunder series the very next weekend.
