Personal History

My name is Ty Graham I'm 17, the second oldest in a family of four kids. I grew up on a farm outside of the city, and like every Canadian kid I played hockey, this was my main focus until one afternoon when I tried out my buddies motorcycle. I instantly fell in love with the feeling of just me and the bike, I knew this is what I wanted over anything else. I got my own bike and got into racing right away, with pretty good results early into my new career. I started out in the 85cc 12-16 and supermini class after a couple races I was consistently a front runner. Soon my parents had a taste of moto and saw every weekend I was improving so they decided they were going to send me to California to train for 2 months. I got back from my training and raced in Canada attending most the CMRC and AOTMX races in 2016. This was my first fully committed year of racing and I was satisfied staying pretty consistent the whole year taking the school boy 1 championship (winning every single moto except the last round due to a concussion) I also placed 3rd overall in supermini, both classes being in the CMRC north circuit. I was tied for 1st going into the last round of the AOTMX circuit but disappointingly finished 3rd overall in that -30 amateur class due to missing the last round from my concussion the weekend prior. After the season was over my parents decided they were going to send me to California again this time for 5 months to try and qualify for Loretta Lynn's. This meant quitting hockey completely and leaving  behind school, friends and family to fully commit my time to chasing the dream of being a professional motocross racer. I trained 4-5 days a week at Champ Factory doing 4-5hr of riding and 2hr of gym, along with school modules. My speed and technicality was improving and I was happy with how everything was going. I qualified in 250c, 250c jr 12-17, 250c limited and 450c for 4 separate regions giving my self as many chances as possible to qualify at the regional and go to Loretta Lynn's. My first regional race was held at Washougal, with 42 riders on the gate starts were tight. Someone hit my bike on a straight away after the first corner sending me over the bars, leaving me trapped under my bike with a snapped femur, I got a rod and 4 screws in my leg. I'm now 4 months deep into this 6 month injury and recovery is going great. This accident has only made me stronger and much hungrier to reach my goals. I'll go back to California in November to train all winter full time with Champ Factory Mx Camp. I plan to race Loretta Lynn's this season , as well as return to Canada for CMRC series. I'm hoping after this years training and another full season next year I will have the speed to race the full Canadian Pro National 250 class. I know I have lots of ground to cover considering I didn't get my first bike until I was 15yrs old, but with my parents support and my dedication good things will happen.
