Personal History
Hello, my name is Tristan Munger; I am 28 years old. I started riding dirt bikes when I was three years old. I didn’t start racing until I was 9. The first bike I raced was an XR80 at Onaway, Michigan. It rained all day, so there was 2 feet of mud. I finished 5th out of 20 riders. Since that first race, I have moved on to a 2006 CRF250R. I have won over 120 trophies and over five championships. I am now on a 2022 MC250 GasGas.
Recently, I have taken my career in a different direction by racing hare scrambles. This has helped to increase my stamina, and I enjoy riding in the woods. In 2021, I ran the series and placed 6th overall. In 2022, I took a break to get married and accustom myself to my new bike, an MC250 GasGas. I raced the 2023 hare scramble series in Open B and placed 2nd in points for my class. For 2024, I chose to race in Open A class for hare scrambles to challenge myself more. I will not race the entire hare scramble series as I want to attend more motocross events this year.
I must give thanks to a few people in my life. The first person I would like to give thanks to is my mother. Without her, I would have never gotten this far in my racing. She has always been there for me on and off the track as my photographer and my biggest fan. Next, I owe credit to my grandpa. From the start, he has helped me in any way possible; he even built my practice track for the off-seasons. At the races, he would watch faster riders around the track and at the gate for tips that could help me get ahead of the competition. Even though I have moved on to a bigger bike, I still enjoy and cherish his company at the gate. Finally, I would like to thank my wife. She has supported my racing career since our relationship began and understands seat time is necessary. She has helped me train, and we now have a home with a training compound and a small track to practice on.
Riding Goals
Throughout most of my riding career, I focused on motocross. Now, I've been diving more into the hare scramble world and enjoy it a great deal. However, racing the entire hare scramble series made me realize how much I love motos since my weekends were full of hare scrambles. I will aim to attend moto races this season. My overall goal is to push myself into becoming the best rider I can be.
Competitive Highlights
In 2023, I placed 2nd in points for the Open B class. My most memorable race was Dad's Day at Valley Trail Riders. I received my first win in the Open B class. Most riders in the hare scramble series didn't enjoy how tight the woods were, but to me, this track provided the most challenge; it was a great time!
My most prominent motocross highlight was in 2021. There was a restart, and it had been a long wait. I forgot that I had shut my gas off. I went from last coming out of the corner to 5th at Bulldogs MC from my best charge. It reminded me that I have the ability and need to push myself more to achieve my goals.
