Hi, I am Tracy Jeffries. My motorcycle riding started as a passenger. It wasn’t long before I decided I wanted to take the MSF course to obtain my motorcycle endorsement, which I completed in April of 2004. As a new and inexperienced rider that didn’t have anyone to ride with, I set out to take as much training as I could to improve my skills and meet other riders. Over the next few years, I completed several track schools, advanced street training and dirt training. I also rode pretty much every weekend and did many week(s) long multiple state rides, logging many 10’s of thousands of miles. In 2009, I decided I wanted to become an instructor and help other riders. I went through instructor training and was hired by PSSOR, where I was an instructor for the Advanced Street Skills course and later also became a dirt instructor. A couple years later I went through and completed the instructor training with famed, Gary LaPlante of MotoVentures and am a certified DirtFirst instructor with Dirt Bike Safety Training.
As I got more involved in the motorcycle industry I started making connections with motorcycle dealers and started working motorcycle events, rallies and rides for BMW Motorcycles of Seattle, formally Ride West BMW, RawHyde, PSSOR, Touratech-USA, Backcountry Discovery Route, Wenatchee Powersports, Sound Rider and Dirt Bike Safety Training (DirtFirst). The best part of working these events has been meeting and networking with owners and employees of motorcycle businesses, other riders and making lots of new friends. As a result of working motorcycle events and training, something happened I didn’t expect. I became an ambassador for female riders, as a resource and contact for women to assist with getting them into the mainly male dominant sport of off-road riding. When I first started working events, there were pretty much no women riders that attended. I think it wasn’t because they didn’t want to attend and that is was because there was some intimation about being the only woman present. I felt the same at first, but for me I was there to work the event, so it got me through the gate and there. Once other women learned I would be there as well as other women it encouraged them to participate. Today, I am the founder of a growing group of women riders called the DirtyGirls and we don’t just ride in the dirt.
I am often told by friends that I ride more than anyone they know and that they live through my adventures. I ride year round and have owned about 25 bikes of all types, including sport, cruisers, dual sport and dirt bikes. To say that motorcycles and all that goes with it are my passion would be an understatement.
I am aware that being a female rider in this sport can be daunting at times. I find it very fulfilling and rewarding to help other riders improve their riding skills and get involved in the motorcycle community. This year will be the 4th annual DirtyGirl dirt riding camp that I have facilitated. It started with about ten women, this year we will have over 30 participating. The legendary Mary McGee will also be joining us, which is quite an honor with her motorcycle racing background and popularity worldwide. It was awesome to have her present as she provided her expertise and gave the women encouragement.
Last year I received a formal invitation to ride with the 2016 exhibition team selected for the Nevada Backcountry Discovery Route (BDR). Not until just recently have women been included on this expedition. I will be the third woman invited to join the team of adventure riders. The ride took place mostly off road and started at the southern border and ended at the northern border in Nevada. There was a film crew along to capture the entire experience on film. The film is premiering in 2017, with the world kick off in Las Vegas February 16th. I will be traveling around to many of the movie premieres throughout the country. The Nevada BDR is the 7th state completed and all the videos and maps are available for sale at many local Motorcycle Dealerships as well as online. I have been a BDR volunteer for the last several years and am currently a BDR ambassador committee co-chair and program liaison.
