Personal History

I was born and raised in SC, and started riding when I was 6. I never got to race until I turned 18 due to overprotective parents. I spent most of my time riding recreationally with friends. I didn't enter my first enduro until Jan 1994 and I was hooked after that. Unfortunately, I had a major career change in Dec 1994 that put an end to my dirtbiking until 2008. I started back riding recreationally in 2008, but never lost the desire to race. I made the decision about halfway through this season to start back racing and entered into a VCHSS event. That feeling was back and the desire to race is just as strong as it was 16 years ago.

Riding Goals

I'm planning on racing the entire VCHSS schedule in 2012. I'll also be entering as many of the SETRA, ECEA and VXCS races that my schedule will allow.

Competitive Highlights

There is nothing like winning a race when it seems everything is against you. I did just that at the 2011 Peninsula 100 hare scramble. Two days of rain turned the course into a complete mud hole, all the hills were like riding greased rails, if there wasn't a hill there were enough roots to make you wish for a hill. I pulled the holeshot and tried to seperate myself from the 2nd place rider, I thought I was doing well until I fumbled on a uphill and got passed by the 2nd place rider! I quickly regained my composure and hooked onto him hoping he would make a mistake, which he did soon thereafter. I pushed on knowing that he may be right behind me, during this time I managed to destroy my camelbak drinking tube on a tree limb. With nothing to drink and the race just starting I knew this was going to be a tough race. On my second lap I endo'd after a hitting a unseen hole, not realizing that I knocked my seat hold-down off the bike. Later on the second lap a slower rider stopped abruptly at the top of a steep hillclimb causing me to perform another dismount, this time I completely lost my seat and my foot got wedged in the rear wheel! Thankfully some nearby spectators came to the rescue and freed my foot allowing me to continue on. If that wasn't enough, as I was passing a slower rider on a offcamber section he slipped into me causing me to wreck and lose my front brakes in the process! Needless to say, one lap with no seat and no front brake I was ready for this race to end! The checkered flag had me winning my class by over 13 minutes ahead of the 2nd place rider. It was the toughest race of the season, with a 25% DNF rate!
