Personal History
My name is Tashna, but most of my friends call me TJ. I am 38 and live on the Gold Coast with my two fur babies, Mazikeen the rottweiler and Bella the great dane X. I am the oldest child and the only one who has appeared to discover the love of motorcycles both road and dirt.
I am a plant, crystal and animal lover that enjoys spending time with loved ones and friends.
I had a sternotomy at the end of July 22 to remove a tumour. Riding a bike has made me realise I am not as fragile, broken or as vulnerable as I thought. It has helped my physical and mental recovery in ways I never imagined possible.
Riding Goals
I started riding road bikes in 2011 and loved the freedom of being on two wheels.
I started riding motocross in earnest in December 2022 after a roadbike and work friend of mine lent me his wife's KX 250. I purchased my first dirt bike in January 23, a 2020 YZ250F and havent looked back (other than to check my lines) since.
I love the fact I am doing something I never dreamed would be possible for me. I love my bike friends, the support and inclusion that exists at the tracks. It challenges me in the best kind of way with great rewards (plus great bruises).
I have never been one to run away from a challenge and I know some of my friends and family think I am crazy for taking up such a wild hobby at 38. I hope that I can encourage and inspire other women, those that are a little older or those with medical conditions that they too can take a chanve and maybe find the excitement they never knew they were missing.
I am heading to the USA to compete in the 29th Annual DUBYA World Vet Motocross Championships as part of the Australian Army Motocross and Endurance Association (AMXEA) team. I am thrilled for the opportunity (less thrilled with the cost) and cant wait to continue my riding development into 2024 and beyond.
Competitive Highlights
I participated in my first race on 14 Oct 23, earning myself 5th place in the ladies (there may have only been 5 in the race though). I went through some serious mental gymnastics before, during and even after the day was done. The sense of accomplishment I feel however is phenomenal, even though I was to be honest, in no way competetive at this stage.
