Rider Updates

Oct 4 2021

Wow, life has CHANGED!!!

I took several years off of racing, and dirt bikes in general. Became a dad, and an old(er) man. 40, married, kids, and getting back into dirt bikes! Here I come VET-C !! It's been over 10 years since I've ridden a dirt bike, hopefully the arm pump doesn't kill me :/

Wish me luck! Feel free to send me a sponsorship request too :)

Woo-Hoo!! After a long summer of racing, traveling, and missing out on "summertime", it has paid off with two, yes 2! series championships!

This past weekend I secured the 2007 250c and OpenC NDMA championships! It was a great feeling for sure!

I know that now I need to work even harder to get ready for the B class next year. I am planning on goin south for the winter pretty soon here, because its gonna be hard to ride here with feet of snow on the ground. A friend of mine just bought a major track in TX, and I am hoping to spend the winter training and working there.

I predict good things for next year! Thanks to everyone that helped me out this year, and to everyone that is coming on for next!

It's late sunday night after the races and I sit here popping pain pills and giving you an update, thinking I should get it out while its fresh. First I want to thank my sponsors: Edge Motorsports, Kenda Tires, HardColors.com, AP Brakes, WeaponMX, Ready Racing, and the Minnesota National Guard.

Today was a good day for racing. It started off with a Perfect track that held up nice and tacky all afternoon thanks to an overcast sky and light on and off drizzle. In practice I felt fast, and it showed in my first moto, leading from the second corner to the finish line. Damb good way to start a day for sure. My next moto was red flagged and restarted, leaving me with only 2 tearoffs in the rain -not a good deal! I raced most of the race in second place, barely able to see out of my googles, before being put back to 3rd on the last lap.

The second set of motos didn't go quite as good... I was going for a pass for the lead in the 3rd corner of the race, I took an inside line and gave it just a bit to much throttle on the seatbounce step-up coming out of it-- Lets just say to much throttle + seatbounce step-up = painfull back flip! I was able to jump back on the bike and finish, but my bars were down by my tank, making for some comical riding! I did pass a few guys back, bent bars and all. I dont know where I finished that race, but it was good enough for 4th overall.

The pain started setting in from that crash, and a previous injury(compressed disc) from Ruthville, just before my last moto. Being in the points lead I knew I had to go out there and ride smart and collect some points. I was able to get out to a decent lead out of the gate, but riding in that much pain I had to let a few guys by. I somehow pulled off a 4th in that moto, good enough for a 2nd overall on the day in OpenC.

It was pretty disapointing to lose those overalls, after such a great start to the day, but I am just glad to be sitting here on the couch, enjoy

It has to be just my good luck that the one weekend my race hauler decides to die and keep me from making a race that it happens on a race not counting for anything.

This weekend there was no points race for me so I figured I would race Glyndon to get ready for a race there in September. Well saterday night I was all loaded up and ready to go race in the morning, when all of a sudden the van dies! Lucky for me I was just at the neighbors and we got it running and home. Needless to say I spent sunday wrenching instead of racing.

But looking on the bright side, it is all fixed up now and I am glad it did not happen on the day of an important race! Boy would that make the series interesting- Blowing a 40 point lead by missing a race!

We only have 3 races left in the NDMA series, and I can say I think I have it locked up tight with a 40 point lead in both classes. My next race is in Bismarck on the 19th, and thankfully my National Guard unit is letting me out of AT a few days early to make it.

After the NDMA series wraps up for the year I plan on racing the remaing D23 races in the B class to gage where I am in that class, and to see what I need to work on over the winter.

Speaking of winter, it should be a great time. I am goin to Arizona for the winter to practice up and get ready for racing B class next year. I know alot of the riding in Az is gonna be hardpack so I just got a good supply of my favorite hardpack tire in- the mighty Kenda Carlsbad Sticky!

Well I should get packing for Annual Training. There won't be any racing for me this next weekened as I will be at Camp Ripley doing the Guard thing.

Keep it Pinned!

The hills on the Mankato MX track are just insane. They are so steep you can barely walk up and down them! It was my first time to the track and it definately took me a few motos to get comfortable on the supersteep hills. By the end of the day I was able to salvage a 3rd overall in both classes as I learned the track and found some passing lines. It was deffinately a good day to be on a 450!

No race due to rain.

Jun 7 2007

Yep, yesterday I decided what the hell, its time for a new bike. I called up my good buddy Russ and Edge Motorsports and told him what I needed, and sure enough he made me a heck of a deal. So yeah, a few hours later I was grinning ear to ear at the power this things have, its just f'ing nuts!! I cant wait to get some more practice on it so I can start racing it, I am thinking I will race it for the first time at Glyndon here in a few weeks, as that is my normal practice track. Anyways, back to riding!

May 30 2007

Last weekend we had a dozer out to Keith Tysdal's place to push up a quality practice track, as the old one was wore out. Lucky for me it is right across the road from my place so I can ride there as much as I want. We totally changed the layout and made it challenging. Off cambers, S-turns, timing sections, seat bounce tables, step-ons, hill jumps, and more make for an awesome practice track! It came out to .8 miles which is right on compared to the rest of the D23 tracks so motos should work out great. Damb I want to go ride it right now!

May 20 2007

Today in 250c action at BRRP race track in Glyndon I hauled ass. Holeshots in both motos and winning by a comanding 30 seconds in moto one and 20 seconds in moto two really was the highlight of the day. For me that is, the ND guys were not to happy, and are already talking shit about the next Bismarck race on the 10th. I had to laugh it off and tell them to go practice as I will be there. Fun times for sure!

Apr 29 2007

Last moto of the day it all finally clicked for me and I got the Holeshot on my little 290f against a bunch of 250 smokers and 450's. Kenda Millville was deffinately the tire to have! I led from gate drop to the checkered flag and it sure felt good to get a moto victory! It really made up for my other 3 starts today where I ended up in pileups!

It has been so nice here this last week, I have been riding bike all over town just to enjoy the spring days, and all the jogging girls that are out! I have a hard time goin to the gym, but I love riding bike and rollerblading around town, so I am hoping that will help me with my mx endurance as the tracks seem pretty rough this year, and standing for a whole race is hard work!

Well I have National Guard duty this weekend, we are off to Camp Ripley in a little bit, so I sould get ready. Sucks to miss a race this weekend...

What a great start to the racing season! Mother nature made sure the sand was well watered at MotoCity MX track this weekend, and boy did it make for great racing! The practice I did over the winter and this spring really showed as I took 1st overall in +25c, and 2nd overall in 250c!

It was great in +25c they dropped us with +25b, +30ABC, and +45ABC. So we had quite a few bikes out there! I was really impressed with my Kenda Milville tires today, as in both motos I was second in the holeshot(on a 290f when everyone else had 450s, so that tire hooked up!), and in the first moto the guy stalled it and I lead the whole field for 3 laps until I got passed by a +45A rider who was riding well in the mud! I was pumped because him and I smoked everyone else by a long shot, giving me the moto win for my class. In the next +25c moto, him and I lined up next to each other knowing we would holeshot the field, and we sure did! We cruised on the hole moto and had the same finish as earlier, giving me my first ever D23 overall win!

In the 250c race they dropped us with ABC, about a dozen AB riders, and 5 of us in the C class. In the first moto I had what I thought was a bad start and was dissapointed my whole moto thinking i was in last, turned out I was only behind the AB riders and all the C riders were behind me, one of them caught me and we had a good race with him making a pass as I boner-aired a jump after sliding out on the face of it. With him talking the class win in moto 1 I knew I had to beat him in moto 2 and lined up next to the fastest A rider on the gate, I got a great start too! Not as fast as that A rider, but I was midpack in the first corner, in an AB pack! As they all pulled away I knew I had to just not let my rival from moto 1 pass me in the next 4 laps and I sure tried. He ended up catching me on lap 3 as I was wearing out from all the riding and he made a clean pass, but for the next lap I stuck to his fender and finished less then a

It has been raining all week, and of course this weekend is the season opener at Staples MX track. It is gonna be soo muddy, well it is kinda sandy, but it is gonna be wet! Well I got my Milville rear mounted up, it seems to do the best in the deep thick sand/mud we have around here, I just need to throw the handguards on to keep the grips clean and I am set. Well wish me luck, I will cross my fingers hoping for sunny weather on sunday.

Mar 22 2007

We went out to Bismarck this last weekend to get some practice in before the race season starts. On saterday we rode at Kimball River Bottoms and here is a short vid of me hitting the natural rollers: http://s41.photobucket.com/albums/e281/livelifedaily/play%20riding%20vids/?action=view¤t=stevewhoopspinned.flv

On sunday we rode out at Tom Peters track in Mandan, Tom is a retired pro from back in the Hannah days and is still super fast! He has a great track that is 1.75 miles long and we put in some good practice out there! Thanks Tom!

Had a great weekend of racing at the Motokazie supercross! Battled all weekend back and forth with Mike V. in the 25+ races. Although he came out in the end it was great racing as we were side by side most of the race and bumping in the corners! It is fun to watch the videos of it as the announcer knew that we were pitting together and just having a ball riding out there so close. It was a great show for the fans for sure!
