Rider Updates

Nov 12 2021

I just realized that I have not posted an update in a while. I suffer from a progressive disease (CFS/ME) that has caused me to gradually reduce my riding/racing and now I am simply doing what I can. I am determined to continue riding dirt bikes until I am simply unable.

Oct 10 2017

I am super-excited to be driving the 2000 miles to Glen Helen Raceway for the World Vet Motocross Championships, November 5th. Although my health is not the best, I decided to take the chance and will just hope that race day is a good day for me.

Sep 13 2017

Due to my chronic illness I have come to accept that I will only be able to race occasionally and so I was very happy to win my class at the Copperhead Supercross in Hopkinsville, Kentucky last Saturday night. I am very grateful for the sponsors that have stuck with me, some for as many as 10 years!

In my opinion the number one thing a rider should do to improve their performance is to have their suspension tuned to their weight/ability/racing type and for the past 10 years the only one I have trusted to do that for me is MB1 Suspension. Thank you MB1 for always making sure everything was absolutely perfect! :-)

Apr 10 2017

Wow, I haven't posted an update in a LONG time!

I have a chronic illness (CFS/ME) that prevents me from competing like I used to but I am able to slip in a race here and there, just for fun. I last did a Hare Scrambles at Loretta Lynn's Ranch (Only 33 miles from my house) about a month ago and got 2nd place in the 55+ Silver Master's class and just yesterday (8 April) I did the MTDR Spring Ride at Loretta's with about a thousand other riders. It was great fun and I am optimistic about riding/racing more in 2017 than I did last year (I hope!).

Oct 2 2015

I injured my wrist/thumb the week before Loretta's this past Summer and am just now back on the bike. Will spend the next couple of months getting back into riding shape, maybe do a few races before Christmas to see where I stand. Looking forward to a much better 2016. :-)

Aug 5 2014

Had a GREAT, fun week racing at Loretta's for my first time. I ended up finishing 24th, 21st and 16th for 22nd place overall in the 50+ Masters class but I was just happy to be there and to improve with each moto. I am so very grateful to all my sponsors that played an important role in my race season.

Jul 9 2014

I made it into the Amateur Motocross Championships at Loretta Lynn's Ranch. This will be my first time competing there and I am super-excited and very happy to be representing a great bunch of sponsors.

Jun 3 2014

Had one of the worst weekends I have ever had (without being injured) at the Ironman Loretta's Mid-East Regional Qualifier this past weekend. Everything that could go wrong did and I ended placing 21st out of 29 and obviously NOT qualifying. I will learn from it and head out to Muddy Creek MX this coming weekend to give it another try at the South-East Regional.

May 26 2014

Had a great day of practice at Lowe's MX in Kentucky with Pat Hall. It was my first time riding there, a fun, challenging track and good training for next weekend's Regional LLQ in Crawfordsville, Indiana.

May 10 2014

Had a great practice session with Derek Smith at Wildflower MX in Spring Hill, Tennessee. Fun track!  :-)

Apr 1 2014

I am now qualified for two Loretta Lynn's Regional events, one in Crawfordsville, Indiana on May 31st/June 1st and another at Muddy Creek MX the following weekend.

If all goes as planned the trip to Muddy Creek will not be necessary but I have some work to do to be ready.

Mar 1 2014

Had a great practice session at Tumbling Creek MX yesterday; we finally had a break in the weather. Need to ride as much as possible in order to prepare for my first Loretta's Qualifier on 22 March.

May 1 2013

I am really enjoying the various racing opportunities here in Tennessee and have so far competed in motocross, arena cross, hare scrambles and enduro racing. Getting back into the woods has inspired me to buy a 2005 KDX200. I am looking forward to getting it prepped and ready for some more hare scrambles/enduro racing.

Dec 16 2012

Am loving my new life here in Tennessee, have raced one motocross (Won my class) and entered a Hare Scrambles that was today, but got sick yesterday and had to cancel. I am very excited about the many racing opportunities in the area. In SoCal I only did motocross but here I am looking forward to Motocross, Hare Scrambles, the OMA series, GNCC, Arenacross, Supercross and maybe even an Enduro. Life is good. :-)

Jul 29 2012

Well, on August 1st I get on the road, driving to my new home in Tennessee. I am excited to take all the experience I have gained while racing in SoCal for the past 7 years and applying it to a new location. In addition to motocross, I plan to get back to some woods racing in the form of Hare Scrambles, GNCC and possibly even Enduro events.

May 26 2012

Finally got back to the track today after a 6-week layoff due to a deployment, injury and preparing to sell our home. It was GREAT to get back out to Cahuilla Creek MX with some good friends and I felt really good on the bike also.

Now I need to plan my next race.

Mar 15 2012

Well, the inaugural Muscle Milk TWMX Winter Cup Series has come to a close. I managed a podium spot at my favorite track, Cahuilla Creek MX but struggled at most rounds to break the top 3.

A 4th overall for the series is not bad considering that I moved up a level and was a bit under the weather during the series, but I hope to do better for the Spring series coming up. The first two rounds are at my "Home tracks", Cahuilla and Pala Raceway. I can't wait!

Thank you to all my great sponsors for the support, I couldn't do it without you.

Jan 9 2012

The first round of the new races series is now in the books. My day at Perris Raceway didn't go exacly as planned as I was taken out by another racer in the first moto and had to work my way from 14th to 9th place before the checkers. In moto 2 I was able to finish 6th place for 7th overall.

I am looking forward to round #2 at Cahuilla Creek MX and will be shooting for a podium spot.

Nov 21 2011

2 races in the past 3 weeks and I feel great. It's SO good to be back in the groove of racing.

Thank you to my sponsors, I couldn't do it without your help.

Nov 3 2011

After a long period of healing and physical therapy for an A/C separation of my left shoulder I am FINALLY ready to race again. This Saturday at Pala Raceway I will make my comeback and my goal is just to get back in the swing of things, be safe, smooth and consistent.

Mar 14 2011

I wrapped up the X-Racing Winter National Series with a win at Cahuilla Creek MX Park on 13 March 2011. I finished 2nd overall for the series but was still pretty happy with my results considering that I had a DNF in my second moto two weeks before, due to a first turn crash that resulted in my breaking a radiator. I am taking a couple of weeks off before getting back to racing.

Dec 19 2010

I scored my first win as a 50-year-old last Sunday at the Christmas Grand Prix at Cahuilla Creek MX. It was a great race!

Jul 20 2010

Well I was doing pretty well in the Pala Raceway race series but ended up injuring a ligament in my thumb and missing the last round. This resulted in my falling to 3rd place in the standings but I had a great time and look forward to the next series they hold there.

I tried to come back from the injury too soon which resulted in my re-injuring the thumb so now I am out for the Summer. I am keeping my fitness up while off the bike and am looking forward to getting back to racing sometime in September.

Mar 23 2009

The Vet X Winter Nationals are over and I was able to come in second place. I am pretty happy with this result as I had to race a few times while sick. The finale was two days of racing at Glen Helen and on day one I finished 5th overall. Day two turned out to be rainy, windy and cold and I was able to finish in second place and also wrapped up second place overall for the series.

It was a tough series and I am looking forward to some time off to rest, train and just ride some of my favorite tracks for fun.

Dec 5 2008

I am officially IN for the Vet X Winter National Series beginning in January. It has been over a year since I have been able to commit to a whole series and I am excited at the prospect of winning a series championship. My last attempt ended in a third place overall after getting a flat front tire during the final moto of the series. This time I am confident that luck will be on my side and I can come away with the title.
