Personal History
I started riding when I was 7yrs old on a Sears 2.5HP red mini bike.I had the mini bike for 2yrs then onto a Honda qa 50 auto but with 2 or 3 gears can't remember.But do remember the spot I had worn a hole in my gramma's general store parking lot where I would stop and rev that little bike up and stomp it into gear..... auh my first wheelie! Then hounded my mom for about 2yrs for a Honda xr75/1974 only $475.00 ,I drove her nuts till she gave in.While the Honda shop tech was still there teaching me to use a clutch for the first time I fell three times, at this point my mom thought the shop should take the bike back but I won once again.The bad thing is to this day she has not watched me race not even 1 event.I would ride that bike everyday and found a local BSA/HODAKA/TRIUMPH shop named Mcdermontt's now a huge Harley Davidson Dealership.Every Sunday the guys would meet at 8:00am for the Sunday ride BSA Victor 441 BSA 500 and so on oh ya me on my Honda xr75. Well these guys would climb a # of hills starting with Brook hill - yes you had to cross a brook to get to it. This hill was huge 5-600 feet straight up, lucky for me there was a trail around it. Half way through the day the riders and myself would stop behind this little store and cook up some hot dogs and some burgers this little store even let us use there grill behind there own home auh the good ole days! Now on a Suzuki rl 250 13yrs old a trials bike and did not have a clue what it was but was able to climb some of those hills.The gas tank leaked and the frame cracked, time for another bike. Bultaco 360 Pursang 1975 15yrs old fast and scary.Moved to a new town and away from the great place I grew up and the awesome trails and hills. Went to the local practice track everyone there had new bikes Honda CR's, Suzuki's RM's. They all laughed at me until I said line up and they gained some respect for that old bike as they ate some dirt from it! Next old bike was a 1978 rm 400 that needed a lot of work 17yrs old now. Raced my first MX Race in 1981 the rm 400 blew the tranny.1983 My first new bike since 1974, a 1983 Honda CR 250 yee haaaaaa!I went back to the hills that I could not make it up when I was little and climbed them all and then some! Wow where has the time gone? I raced Dis. #3 -N.Y. from 1981 till 1993 125am and 250am with so so results. Then moved out west in 1997 started Hill Climbing Dis #16 - State Champion in two classes, also started Ice Racing CWIRA Series with top 5 yr end finishes. In 2000 a pro motocross rider stayed with me for 2 months and I trained with him, I feel that to this day this is the big reason for my 1st place finishes at a number of Amateur MX Nationals, Ice Racing and a Regional Trials Championships! Train Hard, Ride Hard and Win! All the people I have met through the years have been great! There is a lot more but looks like I' am out of room.
Riding Goals
Getting ready for the 2025 Season! I still Ride and Race because of a passion I have had since I started riding 55yrs. ago. I have always wanted to try and qualify for LLMX. Maybe I will be the oldest guy to make it in. Still have a lot of heart! And have worked at this for a long time. Train Hard, Ride Hard, and Win! All the people I have met through the years have been great! You just can't beat the racing family and so many awesome memories! Lets Go! So bummed my back took a hit from the bike next day thought it would an adjustment in my back because my left leg felt like it has a pinched nerve. Not the case T10, T12 are compressed, my hips have one inch difference in HT. left hip joint is bone on bone. So glad I went to get checked out never knew I had this going on and more that will have to be addressed for a year.
