Personal History

My name is Shawn Hayes and I am from Brazil, IN. I did not begin riding bikes until after high school when I could afford to buy my own bike. I bought a very used CR250 from a friend and started from there.  After a few months of riding, I bought a newer CR250 and began racing in District 15 and 17.  I took a few years off, graduated from Purdue University and started a family.  Three years ago I got back into motocross and have been racing ever since. This is my first year back after a knee surgery and moved from motocross into hare scrambles which fit my style much better.

Riding Goals

My goals for 2013 are to continue where I am leaving off in 2012.  I want to continue to improve weekly and have the results to show for it. I want to see my class placement move up and also see my overall finish improve as well.  I am looking at racing several different series in 2013 depending on the schedules for the events.  I plan on running either the OMA or National Hare Scramble Series along with District 17 and District 15 events as the schedule allows for the national series.

Competitive Highlights

In 2012, I finished 4 overall in the Midwest XC series in the Vet B class even after breaking my thumb half way through the year.  I had some 3rd place finishes, as well. My biggest competitive highlights of 2009 is finishing 3rd in the 30+ C class overall for District 17 and 2nd in the 30+ C class for the track points at Lincoln Trail Motorsports Hare Scramble series.  I also had a couple of personal highlights for individual races as well. I finished 2nd at Lincoln Trail Motorsports after I could not get my bike started on the line when the flag dropped.  My line included two different classes and I gave the entire row a 10 second head start while trying to get the bike started. I also had a very good race at CCDR where 1 1/2" of rain fell within an hour of the start.  Needless to say the course was extremely muddy with lots of hills and was able to work up to 2nd.
