Personal History
I am 39 years old and have been racing since the late 90s. I have been an above knee amputee for 5 years- after being hit by an oncoming truck while riding my dual sport home from work. Besides loosing my left leg about 8 inches above the knee, i also sustained numerous other injuries, including 3 pelvic fractures. It's been a wild ride since! Here's a few highlights.
*I ride with no prosthesis, though i have been working on a custom design over the past 2 years.
*Completed my first Harescramble back after amputation- just 3 months after being hit.
*Voted Rider of the Year of the Arkansas Harescramble Championship Series-of which i have served in the past as treasure, VP, and President.
*Raced in the first ever AMA sanctioned amputee MX race in Orlando. I tore my achilles tendon in half during practice. I went on to race the event anyway, and got 3rd place and a Bronze medal from the Extremity Games.
* I have competed at ESPN X games twice- '08 ad '09
*I ride a specially modified Wr250f with right foot shift and handlebar mounted rear brake.
Riding Goals
For the 2011 season, i have been selected as one of 12 riders to front the Rider Down Foundation as part of Team Rider Down. So first and formost, i intend to take any attention i may receive and redirect it their way.
I have spent most of the last year healing from a severe knee injury, though i continued racing. My riding plans include the full AHSCS.com schedule, starting up in February. I would also like to compete at the Extremity Games/X Games qualifier in Millington, MI.
I am promoter of the oldest race in the AHSCS and will be hosting our 16th annual Harescramble and RiderDown Benefit ride.(Sturkie Road Harescramble-Salem, AR.)
I have been active in securing public riding areas and have a couple of new areas on my radar for this year.
