Personal History
My name is Shane DelGrosso. I grew up riding motorcycles but I never had a chance to race until much later in life. I was lucky enough to race BMX growing up though and I made it pretty far getting sponsored at a young age with support from a top bicycle company. My heart was always with motocross though.
In my late twenties I found the sport of triathlons and once again made it pretty far. I finished 7th overall in 7 different triathlons and won my age group regularly. In the winter of 2003 I began building a new triathlon bike and realized when I added up all the receipts I could have bought a brand new motocross bike. It didn't take long to realize at 29 years old this would be a perfect time to get into the sport I always loved. I sold the tri bike on eBay and went and bought a new motocross bike.
It took most of that season to get out of the novice class but it felt so great to finally be racing motocross. A free years later I won my first championship in the highly competitive NESC organization. By the time I was 35 only 5 year after beginning racing I made it to the expert class. It could not have come in more dramatic fashion and it will be something I remember for the rest of my life. It came down to the last race of the year at the legendary motocross 338 in Southwick MA. Not only did it come down to the last race of the year but I was the last moto of the year as well. I needed to get 2nd to earn my way into the expert class and I went out and won. That was the best feeling I have ever got from competing in a sport.
Riding Goals
My number one goal is to make it to Loretta Lynn's within the next couple of years.
Locally now I need to be realistic and set the bar a little lower than I'd like. I'm pretty much one of the only guys in my classes that hasn't had a national number. When you line up against Dowd, Treadwell, Larusso, Barton , Johnson, you have to be careful and realistic setting your goals. These guys are all multi time champions and in the case of Dowd, national champions . I honestly always look to be top 5 and I am consistently finishing there.
Competitive Highlights
My highlights in motocross are my NESC championship and being a weekly top 5 fisher against an incredibly talented field in the +30 and +40 A classes.
