Personal History

My name is Scott Guise, I am a Christian, I am 36 yrs old, oldest of 4 children, I have 18 1/2 years of active duty service in the Marine Corps, I am a Volunteer Fireman, and part time EMT for one of the extended counties where I live as well as volunteer for a Rescue Squad in another county.

I have just completed my first season and childhood dream of racing motocross in the Southern MX series (SMX) and I am gaining experience, skills, and fundamentals in leaps and bounds so I am told.  Growing up I was not in a position to afford the sport, the location of where I lived was not conducive, nor did I have the time needed to dedicate efforts towards it.  I have been riding motorcycles for almost 18 years, I am an MSF Rider Coach / Instructor, "Keith Kode" AMOS course graduate, President of our unit's motorcycle mentorship program, and an overall avid rider (rain, shine, temps below 23 degrees, it doesn't matter/ have a way, will ride), trail and mud rider, as well as street riding sport bikes, track days on sport bikes, and of course motocross.  "Scott, do you even own a car or truck?!" (laughing) I do own a truck, but it only gets driven to the track to transport my 2009 KX450F.  I spend a lot of time, riding motorcycles, working out / staying in shape, and at current I am the only person in our series running (3) classes per race to total (6) races a day excluding practices.  If it has an adrenaline rush to it you can find me in it.

As I said before it has always been a childhood dream watching all those talented riders on television and wishing it could be me, and to share in the brotherhood of motocross groups, and now it is!  I found myself in position to race every race this year in the 2010 SMX series here in Eastern North Carolina which totaled (25) race days, and in my case with (3) classes per race day, I completed (75) class races, and (150) motos at the end of this season.  I have just signed on with the AMA to compete in the 2011 District 29 & 13 races.

I have made many friends quickly in this sport and I am told that my drive, ambition, and aggressiveness is respected, but most of all that I am a genuine person that is above placing higher at the finish than someone else by doing something that risks both riders.  For this, I am grateful to have that praise.  I have a lot of riders both young and older coming to me to help me get better and see me do better and I attribute this to the closeness of the sport.  From helping fix flat tires to make it back in the race from back to back motos, to just talking about methods to improve or strategies to use, all the information and time spent on me is appreciated and I would like to say to all of you in the SMX Series, thank you!  It is because of all this help I achieved (2) Championships and a 2nd place overall in my first year.

Thank you as well to anyone who reads this little bit of history about me and my dream being fulfilled.

Riding Goals

My goal is to compete the 450 C / B classes in the AMA, Districts 29 & 13.

I want to develop the skills to eventually move up in class and hopefully within the next year or two compete in Arenacross, and Endurocross. I would like to learn to scrub and whip this year as well.

I would like to meet more friends as well.  You can never have too many friends.

Competitive Highlights

I am not the kind of person to talk about my achievements, so I usually talk about what I have been told by others if asked.  First, I am told repeatedly that I am getting faster and faster very quickly.  I attribute this to growing confidence, practice, the help of fellow riders that give me pointers and insight, and the research I do online.

Some of my competitive highlights involve;

-Achieving (2) Championships in my first year, and also walking away with a 2nd place overall in my third class.  I have achieved the goal of 150 motos in my first year, never missing a race day, and even though I had some really bad injuries from a couple of bad wrecks, I was able to deal with it and continue to race.

-Passing more experienced riders in the "C" class while turning and jumping next to them or combining both to make the pass.

-Having the confidence to put my nose inside and block pass.

-Racing bar to bar against a "B" class rider and winning in a moto, after multiple collisions.

-Lapping a "C" class rider on my first race day, and beating (2) "C" class riders in my third race and gaining a half lap on them while running "D" & "C" classes together and still taking 1st place.

-Not crashing, staying on track, or taking anyone out, while being slammed into during races after jumping a double into an off camber turn.
