Personal History

Hi, my name is Rick Woodborne and I live in Cape Town South Africa.  I am 8 yrs old and I love to ride my MX bikes.  I started riding bikes at the age of 18 months when My dad bought me a quad bike. By the time I was 3 I was riding the quad bike by myself. For my 5th birthday my dad bought me my first 2 wheeler.  It was a chinese mini bike.  It took me four days to learn how to balance and ride the bike.  My cousin races enduro's and I wanted to try so my dad entered me into my first enduro in February 06/08.  I crashed out after four laps and did not finish the race.  My dad then decided to buy me a better bike and so I got my HONDA CRF50F I raced the next 5 enduro's for the year and finished 4th Overall for the region out of 12 riders in my first year.  The 50 four stokes race together with the 50 two strokes (KTM's and Polini's) which is a bit unfair but I still did well and topped my season with a second place in Stellenbosch. In 2009 my dad entered me into enduro and motor cross for the year.  I am doing well in the motor cross for my first time. To date I have two 3rd places, a 4th and 1 DNF due to bike problems.  In the Enduro I have completed 3.  1st one I stalled my bike and lost 20 mins.  We race for 45 minutes and that dropped me to 7th for the day.  Second race this year was a national event with riders from all over the country.  I finished 6th overall.  My last enduro was on the 23 May where I managed a 4th place behind the KTM's.  I was the first 4 stoke in the class.  In April this year my dad bought me a Polini X3 and it is an awsome bike.  It has taken me a while to get used to it but now I am starting to get up front with the leaders. I love competeing and have an absolute passion for racing.  Unfortunaletly it is very expensive here as much of the motorcross and enduro kit is imported and is expensive due to the exchange rate.  We do our best and I am gratefull that I have the chance to compete and take part in a sport that I love. I am a grade 2 student at Sweet Valley Primary School In Cape Town South Africa and I am a very good student.  My grades so far are very good and I also enjoy school very much.

Riding Goals

I will start the new year on a new bike.  A Polini X3 which I have been riding for the past few months.  This bike is awsome ans super fast.  I won the last race of the year on it and I am going to be traing hard for next year so that I can win more races.  I plan to finish in the top 3 of the Motorcross championship as well as in the junior offroad championship.

Competitive Highlights

My best race so far was the the last motorcross event of the year held at the Kilarney Raceway in Cape Town.  I started by taking the holeshot in the first heat and managed to open up a good lead.  I ditched in turn 3 and could not start my bike. I  manged to get is started but was noe lying 6th.  Managed to finish in 2nd for heat 1.  Second heat I had a slow start with the leader about 80 meteres ahead.  I hunted him down lap after lap and on the last lap passed him to finish in 1st place and take overall honors on the day.  It was an absolute nailbiter of a race.  My best yet but not my last.
