Rider Updates

Feb 28 2018

My new 2018 Honda CRF450R is like a dream!  So fast and so quick in the corners!  Lap times have dropped significantly thanks to fresh suspension and a power band that just never stops pulling.  Scored 2nd Place in the last race February 11, 2018 and feeling strong for the year ahead.

Happy to report the Yamaha YZ450F is making me feel comfortable and confident for the 2017 season.

Dropped on some new ProTaper Contour bars with the right bend to smooth out handling.

ASV Levers complete the arrangement.

Gaerne SG-12s rock, straight outta-the-box with almost no break-in.

And always top props to Smith for great goggles (MX or snow) and amazing rider support.

Thanks everyone!

After a sustained period off the bike due to injury, I'm back riding MX again although this time in an all new setting -- Puerto Rico.

PR has several tracks and lots of free-riding.  I'm on a 2008 Yamaha YZ450F that had to be almost completely rebuilt after having been raced by another rider on the island that left the bike pretty roached.  What can I say?  It was a good project and good therapy while I was hurt, and now I have much more confidence in the bike... but getting parts to PR is a royal PAIN!

Even if you can get parts here on the island, they're 150% of retail on the mainland after you add in shipping and tax, etc.  I've had to resort to shipping parts to my old teammates in Cali and either having them ship 3rd party or I pick them up in a suitcase when I visit.  I'm literally using a rifle case to transport my suspension back for a tune-up.

Anyway, all this means that I'm back on MXSponsor looking for rider support wherever I can find it. The race scene in Puerto Rico is just starting to grow, so I'm hoping to get into a series soon via the Puerto Rico Motocross Association. There are some fast guys here so don't think the change of location will mean instant podiums -- verdad

Thanks in advance for shipping USPS to PR!

The weather was cool and soggy for this first race of the new calendar year, which made for muddy and slick conditions on the mostly-clay Pala track. But that didn’t stop Douglas and Bedell from dropping some hot laps at the race track the team calls home.

Bedell was able to place 2nd in Moto #1 ahead of rival racer Kevin Merlo #897 (winner of the 2011 X Racing Winter Series presebted by Yamaha) and 4th in Moto #2 for a 4thPlace Overall finish on the day.

Team Budding MX rider Peter Bedell (#970) has placed 7th overall for the 2011 Xtreme Prize Giveaway Series presented by Yamaha.  After competing in 7 of the 8 races required to qualify for series points, Bedell was able to secure 7th Place (with 52 total points) for the end-of-the-year championship.  It was a rocky ride to the top-ten for Bedell who raced for the first time in the 40+ Amateur class this season.  Illness, mistakes, and erratic performance marred an otherwise promising start to the series which began back in September.

“I feel good about ending the season healthy and in the top ten, but it’s clear there are areas that need work before the next series,” says Bedell of the finale to the 2011 motocross season.  ”I would never have made it this far if it wasn’t for the support of my teammates and sponsors — One Industries, Smith, ASV, Baron, Gaerne, Six Six One, Osiris, Twin Air, Decal Works, KSR Wheels, EVS and of course Glenn Castro from North County Hyper Sports.  Thank you to everyone for a fantastic 2011 motocross season.”

It’s that season of the year again — time to start thinking about the X Racing Xtreme Prize Giveaway Series.  This year the grand prize is a brand new Yamaha YZ250F which ought to give Team Budding MX riders even more incentive to participate in as many races in the series as possible.

“We want to be at as many races as we can to help support our sponsors,” says team rider Peter Bedell (#970).  ”Special thanks goes out to our most recent sponsors EVS, Osiris Shoes, and One Industries. And of course, we would never have gotten to this point today if it weren’t for our long-term sponsors North County Hyper Sports, ASV, Baron, Gaerne, KSR Wheels, Twin Air, Tag, Six Six One, Sunline and Smith Optics who just extended their Budding MX sponsorship throughout the 2012 season.  Just can’t say enough good things about our supporters. A big thank you goes out to all of them.”

Details for the race are available at Vet X Racing.com for riders and spectators alike.  In the meantime, here’s a quick peek at the upcoming race agenda:
