Personal History
Hello! I am 32, married to an incredible wife, and have two amazing children (10 and 6). My career as a Luxury Retail Manager has let me grow professionally, but also given me the ability to provide for my family, and give them the best possible life I can. I started riding when I was about 5, got my first bike at 9 and never looked back. As the breadwinner of the house, we have had our struggles as my career grew and our family went through changes. I have relocated twice for work, and am now in a great place where I plan to be for several years.
Recently I have gotten back into woodworking and making custom furniture for my family to use. My newest project is a new dining table with matching benches. Taking the time to create something so useful and (in my opinion) beautiful is a very rewarding experience.
My children are amazing little people who impress me everyday with things they have learned, skills acquired, and a never ending thirst for knowledge. I don't remember asking so many questions when I was their age!!
I am taking racing seriously this year. I have completely given my diet an overhaul, hired a professional sports trainer (currently on a 6 day/week program), and set goals for myself that will ensure that when the first gate drops in 2018, I will be in the best shape of my life both physically and mentally.
Like most people, I have had my share of setbacks and failures over the years. It is through these experiences that I am who I am today, and without them I wouldn't be able to appreciate where I am in life, and how exciting things really are right now. 2018 is going to be the best year of my life, and 2019 even better yet!
Riding Goals
First and foremost my goal is to represent myself and my sponsors to the best of my ability every chance I get. As a business manager I know that time spent with customers is an investment that is more important then the service or prices given to them. It takes a lot of hard work to build a brand and create loyalty to it. My experience dealing with the public will be an asset to your team, and create opportunities for business that did not exist before. I will always represent myself and companies supporting me well in person and online, as well as posting brand focused updates on all my social media (facebook, twitter, instagram).
Second is to be a positive role model and contributor to my community and sport locally, as well as in every location I travel to for events and races. There is far to much negative and egotistical behavior in professional and amateur sports. I want to create a better environment for everyone to be in and be inviting to outsiders of the sport. This in turns gives more positive attention to motocross and the people who participate.
Third I want to attend and race every event in my regional series, as well as travel to the surrounding regions and participate in their series (assuming no scheduling conflicts). I always race to win when I line up, and the only way to give myself more chances of that, is to line up more often.
Competitive Highlights
My proudest highlight would be pulling the holeshot in every motocross event I entered. My wife surprised me with a butt patch on my pants that said "Holeshot Hayward". Locally I was known for it.
Second would be finishing every motocross event I entered. No matter my position, track condition or physical pain (Im looking at you arm pump!) I always finish what I start. I learned a lot doing that as well. Never giving up, and pushing to the end got me far better results overall, as many of my competitors would quit or stop trying and I would pass them near the end of the race.
And finally, actually making money racing a dirt bike. I came in second in my first arenacross race Plus 30 class. No trophy, but I did get a nice envelope full of cash. We just wont tell my wife that my prize of $40 bucks was nothing to the $300 I had spent entering classes and paying race fees for the weekend! Plus now I can always tell my kids that I made money following my dreams and actually got paid to race a motorcycle (even if it only happened once!).
