Rider Updates

May 22 2020

Hey Everyone,

The end of the 2019 race schedule was a tough one for me.  With strong points standing for the Youth Motocross League here in Utah I was ready to finish strong.  I was racing in two classes.  Both 85 beginner and 85 Open in a field of about 25 riders.  Our final race of the season was October 2nd and we went out for a few practice laps with all the 85 and 65 riders.  I was off to a great start with a hard launch and a sprint to the first corner.  As I landed coming off the first single there were two riders that had gone down in front of me.  As I attempted to avoid the riders that were down I was hit from behind and wiped out hard.  I injured my left hand and took a foot peg top the back of my leg and it ripped right through the pants and pads.  My bike was broken and the race was over before it began.  After an evening at the ER I was patched up and sent home to recover over the next month or so while my wounds healed.  My bike is just about put back together and racing resumes in the coming weeks.  I cant wait to get going again.  Thanks to my Dad and all my sponsors for the support.  We are looking forward to another great year in 2020.

Hey Everyone,

We have been off the race schedule for some time following neck and back injuries at the Draper Enduro Challenge.  We are back to being healthy and strong and its time to start preparing for the 2019 season.  We have our indoor arena cross series here in Utah and we are just about ready for the gates to drop.  Look for updates in the coming months.  Thanks again to all of my sponsor support and for sticking by me throughout this season of recovery.

I GOT A NEW BIKE!!!  After one season on my KTM 65SX we decided it was time to step up to the next level.  My Head Mechanic (Dad) is going through my new to me KTM 85SX.  We got it on a Wednesday, went riding the following Saturday and Sunday and then tore everything down to the bare bones.  We are now 70% of the way done with reassembly with a fresh top and bottom end, rebuilt carb and tuned exhaust, new bearings and bushings throughout, fresh fluids top to bottom and front to back.  Now its time to get some practice in before the snow flies here in Northern Utah.  Luckily the local RMX Series has decided to host an arena cross race series.  We are looking forward to our first ever indoor racing experience over the course of 6 races throughout January and February.  Ill post pics to my profile once the build is complete on the new bike.  Thanks again to everyone for the support and sponsorship.  We couldn't do it without you.

Hi Everybody,

My first summer Race Series has come to a close.  Sadly the Grand Prix event was cancelled due to thunderstorms and heavy rains.  We have learned so much over just the past few months.  We went from a scrambled mess to a well tuned machine in our pre race prep and race day process.  My Dad and I would get up extra early on race days and load the gear and bike so he could make it to work on time.  Right after school I would rush home to meet my Mom and Sister to meet up with my Dad at the track with just enough time to suit up before the riders meeting.  We are looking forward to the winter race series with Wild West and USRA with my first Arena Cross race experience.   We will be racing weekly indoors over the winter.  I am super excited.  Thanks again to all of the sponsors that have stepped up and supported me.  One season down - a lifetime to go.  Best regards and thanks.

Hello Everyone.  Well the Enduro Challenge is behind us and Owen rocked it.  He competed well through the practice sessions and through prelims earning a spot in the main event that night.  He competed through two prelims finishing 6/13 followed by 5/13.  The final during the main event was especially challenging as the track had become well worn and a little trickier to navigate.  Owen had a really strong start and was 2nd in the hole shot to the corner.  He rounded the corner and came up and over the sand pile obstacle and his front wheel hit a pocket resulting in a hard fall over the bars.  Owen picked himself and his bike up, wiped away some tears and got back at it.  Over the next 5 laps Owen worked his way through the entire field to take 5th overall.  Rightfully so he was very proud of his strong showing.  We had lots of friends and family there to cheer him on.  The crowd that showed up for the event was awesome.  Some 3800 spectators were in attendance as well as the Diesel Brothers Crew and the film crew from Discovery Channel.  It was really exciting to see all the action.  Owen has also completed race 3 of the RMR Mini Moto Summer Series were he earned his first Top 10 finish in a field of 22 riders.  Whoooo Hoooo!!!   Until next time thanks to all our sponsor support.   You guys are awesome!  -Owen Thayer #228 and Dad #128
