Personal History

My name is Nicholas Hornbrook and I am 14 years old. I am home schooled and when I'm not riding or maintaining my bike, I'm either working out, building models, taking care of our animals, or playing video games with my friends. The first time I ever rode a dirt bike was two months before my 13th birthday. All it took was that first ride and I was hooked. I started off on a KLX230R trail bike riding with my Dad and sister around our backyard and local trails. Then we started riding in fun runs and poker runs. We made a few upgrades to the 230, but it wasn't long before I started riding my dad’s WR 450 F and he rode the 230. I competed in a Hare Scramble and a Sprint Enduro when I was 13 on the 450, then for my 14th birthday we were able to get a YZ250FX. I will be competing in the NMA Off-Road Series for this season as well as Moto Cross and some Sprint Enduros.

Riding Goals

My goals for riding are to continue to improve by taking more training classes, entering as many events as I'm able to and one day make it to Loretta Lynn's. I would like to push my self to see how far up the ranks I can get. I've received a lot of positive feed back from my trainers and fellow riders.

Competitive Highlights

My first ever competitive event was a Hare Scramble in September of 2022. It was unusually hot and dry for this event. A lot of riders dropped out due to the heat and dust. Many riders said it was the worst conditions they've ever seen for that race. It was very tough, but I did it, and I finished it on my Dad's WR 450 F. I went down a couple of times, but got back up and kept going.

My first even this year on my new bike was a Hare Scramble. I finished 4th out of 9 riders in my class and worked my way up into several of the other classes as well. The conditions this time were very slick and muddy. Not bad for my first event on my new bike. My second and third race was pretty uneventful and the conditions were pretty dusty. The first race, I got a pretty bad start and had to pass a lot of riders in my class and other riders in different classes. I got 6th out 20 riders in my class, That day. The second race a I got a pretty good start, but then my front end washed out and had a narly crash that broke my visor and tweeted the handlebars. I had to get though two classes until I could start passing riders in my class, I also had to get through a bunch of other riders. I got 6th out of 14 riders which was not that bad.
