Personal History
Hey there, my name is Nick Acosta. I am originally from San Diego, CA but have been living in Phoenix, AZ for the past 5 years. I grew up riding through the desert in Ocotillo Wells, along with Paster City and Superstition Mountains in the Imperial Valley of California. Back in 2012 my brother and I started racing the Best in the Desert series to get into off road racing. We started with one race in 2012 and then two in 2013 and have been doing more and more as the years have come along. Our youngest brother is going to be joining the team for the 2016 season, and we are looking to have our biggest year of racing yet. Since I was raised to ride in the desert and I currently live in the desert, that is most of where my riding is done. I have started to get out to the track every once in a while, and would love to get into some small local races there as well.
Riding Goals
I like to set goals for riding every couple months to make sure they are relative and that I am still actively pursueing the ones i have set in place for myself. for the year of 2016, my riding goal is to finish all 4 major races we are planning on entering (Parker 250, San Felipe 250, Baja 500, and Vegas to Reno). On top of that, we are still hunting for a win in class. I think that is the biggest short term goal, that my brothers and I have at this moment is to win one of these in our class.
In regards to long term goals, the biggest one set in place by myself and my family is to compete and finish the Baja 1000. We have raced Mexico for a few years and the mystique and pride that you get from racing in Mexico surpasses any other accomplishment i have achieved thus far. Another long term goal I would like to accomplish would be to win the points championship for SCORE and BITD. Even winning a championship in a local race series would be a major accomplishment!
Competitive Highlights
One of the biggest highlights and prideful things we have is that out of all of the desert races we have raced, we have only not finished one race. To be able to have your bike, your body, and your mental capacity to keep it together over hundreds of miles is a great accomplishment. Our family, and even the family of off road racing, beleive that to finish first, you must first finish. We always keep that in mind whenever crosing the finish line.
Besides the first one, the biggest highlight i have personally is finishing the Baja 500 in June of this year. We started the race at 6am and finished around 830pm, and travelled all over the upper penisula of Baja. I was able be the one to finish the last 40 miles as it entered back in to Ensensada, and to see the locals surrounding the course for the last 10 miles of it, supporting, and cheering you on is a feeling I cannot put to words. By far, it was the best event i have ever competed in and we have already commited to racing that race as much as we possibly can.
