Personal History

Dear Sir or Madam,

As the 2024 motocross season rolls around the corner, I am writing to you on behalf of my family race team known as DP10Racing in search of sponsorships for the upcoming 2024 motocross season.
My name is Morgan Lockerby, and my family has been affiliated with some sort of racing for over 50 years. Both of my grandfathers and my father have all raced cars, to include street stock, tiger series and late models. My father and I were introduced to motocross when I was 8 years old by some of our relatives who were deeply affiliated with the Vermont Motocross Association. We have both raced motocross for several years now.  I like to think I have racing in my blood, but my mom tells me I have more blood in my racing!
I am from Enosburg Falls, Vermont, and currently work full time at a diesel repair shop in Berkshire, Vermont where I work hard every day to pay all of my own bills, purchase things needed to race motocross, and provide for my lovely girlfriend, 1 year old daughter, along with her 3 kids which 2 are starting to ride motocross this coming spring.  I have been told that I have a great work ethic because a lot of people my age have no desire to work, and I think that is one of my best traits, and says a lot about my desire to do well in life and most importantly motocross as it is my #1 priority.

Currently, I train whenever the weather permits on a small track in our backyard or drive to NY on Thursdays because there are limited tracks to ride where I live. Sometimes, it's even in the rain and snow. Nonetheless, I am excited about the new season, and have dedicated myself to a training program at the gym where I will train daily to improve my flexibility, strength and endurance. Not to mention I have a workout room in my own house with top of the line equipment. Monday through Friday I like to wake up around 5am and hop on my stationary bike to get my heart rate up, then go into straight strength training as I am a lighter/ smaller built motocross racer. It helps me hold onto my fully built KTM SX250 2 stroke race bike. After an hour of morning workouts I get my daughter up and bring her to daycare, then I head to work 8-4 on ride days and 8-5 on non-ride days. When we get done work Mondays/ Wednesdays are workout days at the gym, Tuesdays and Thursdays are ride days. Then, I go home to salvage as much time with my family that I possibly can. I am a firm believer the work you put in off the track will show on the track, and our 2022 season was a prime example of that.

For a while I lost track of my dream as I tried to piece my future back together without my best friend. Searching for other things that may have interested me, and even have given up because I was lost. But, I am ready to move forward after a series of unfortunate events and I am seeking any help to continue the  pursuit of fulfilling a dream and work towards my motocross career that I have been very passionate about ever since I threw a leg over the bike at eight years old.

Our team name, DP10Racing, originated on behalf of my best friend, Dawson Timothy Michael Perley, who had passed away as a young teenager (age 15) due to a side by side accident. He was a very special friend to me, and we had a brotherly bond like no other friend I've ever had. Our friendship began our very first day of kindergarten back in 2005.  He and I were inseparable from that day on. We even began planning our college years to attend the same college so we could stay together.  Until the end of our freshman year in 2015, when my life suddenly changed and my plans came to an end when he unexpectedly and tragically passed away.  All of my dedication to the motocross sport is in honor of him because I love motocross as much as I loved him.

Riding Goals

As I sit here today as a fit 24 year old man with a dream, and looking back at my accomplishments, I have won numerous trophies from my past riding experiences (78+ trophies) and I think I have the potential to excel in this sport. I am 110% dedicated to this decision and sport, as I have never let anything stop me from racing such as minor to severe injuries, or people telling me I can’t. In fact, the more someone tells me that I can’t do something, the more I will show them that I can!  I’m ready for the 2023 race season to be underway! With a 2022 Open C Vermont state championship under my belt I now am more wise on what i need to do to be one of the top riders, I’m confident this year I will be a champion racing payout races along with Lorettas qualifiers and possibly Mini O'S in the 250B, Open B, 450B, possibly 2 stroke class if provided. I chose a 250 2 stroke due to the cost of repairs and the fact of just going out to have fun, she's equipped with local ride support CrownHouse suspension as that's what i prefer out of (factory connection, crown house performance and dc3) as ive had them all. I will be training a 3 year old on a ktm 50 along with a 9 year old hoping onto a ktm 65 from winning a championship in 2 classes on quads this past year. The main goal for the 2024 season is going all the way straight to the finals at Loretta Lynn's Ranch, and not just qualifying for the college boy class but all classes (250B, OpenB, College Boy, and possibly other class. Why this year instead of last year? I feel more focused with the training I've been doing all winter long, I feel mentally and physically stronger/ fit,  and I feel more prepared after a long winter than I usually do as I have had my mind on motocross non stop all winter long which in my belief will be a strong build up of unreleased energy for when I hop back on the bike, especially while training.

Competitive Highlights

I have qualified for Loretta Lynn’s Regionals which is the semi finals to get into semi pro racing to pro racing. Loretta’s is the hardest of racing other than professional motocross itself. I qualified for regionals in 2019 by finishing top 8 in college boy (a class for all rider abilities as pros, rookies, ext at the ages 18-24 years of age). At the northeast area qualifiers at Southwick mx (a professional dirt bike track) in Massachusetts I qualified for the next round which is regionals motocross. I was unable to make regional qualifiers in Pennsylvania due to an injury during training. After completing 1 of 7 regionals finishing top 5 then you go to Loretta Lynn’s which is the real deal. It is an ultimate dream of mine to qualify for semi pro motocross and I’d like to try again this year to go all the way to the top and work hard to make it to Loretta’s in Tennessee to get noticed.

I trained for motocross in Orlando, FL in the year of 2018 landing me with a full ride whenever I want sponsorship with Bartow MX, this ending up resulting in a broken collar bone and a minor to major concussion and separated shoulder 2 weeks before Lorretta's qualifiers, but after two months, I was back training on the bike. I transferred closer to home to Massachusetts and trained in the Northeast tracks, primarily at Wareham mx. Shortly after starting my training I sold my 2013 kx250f and bought a brand new 2019 yz250f. I took all my tax money to put the parts needed such as suspension, handlebars, grips, ext, pretty much everything needed to make me more comfortable on the bike. Which, my suspension alone was a little over $1700 as I went with factory connection. Shortly after I started racing NEMX (New England motocross series) in the classes 250c, open c, and 450c as I did not make every race due to family weddings, work, and a couple small injuries at a couple races resulting in me to not to do as good overall as my race to race results were showing. Last year we broke our wrist during training, trained while healing, crashed hard the next race attemted throughout other half of the year and just decided to hang the boots up for the rest of the year and move up to the B class for the 2024 season.
