Personal History
My name is Mikael Bertrand. I live in Nevada on the family farm/ranch with my parents John and Kathleen Bertrand, two sisters, grandmother, and uncle. I am currently employed part-time by NV Energy. I attended home school with my sisters and neighbors. I grew up outdoors, working on the farm/ranch, so I have a love of the outdoors, which includes hunting and fishing, as well as riding motorcycles. We use motorcycles on the farm/ranch, and I started riding motorcycles at 12 years old. I like to mechanic on small engines, including motorcycles, and have repaired some for friends. I also enjoy mentoring other younger riders. Helping them grow and succeed at motorcycle riding/racing and teaching them the importance of good sportsmanship, never giving up, and to give back is very rewarding. (One funny note, before getting my first bike, a 1994 Yamaha 80cc, I wanted to rodeo!)
Riding Goals
My long-term goal is to race professionally. Nationally this year, I would like to attend the AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship at Loretta Lynn Ranch and possibly the Dodge Amateur National. Locally, I would like to attend as many of the races at the Gold Rush MX Park as I can and of course try to attend the fall series at Sierra Motocross Racing Association.
Riding and racing motorcycles is my passion. I am at my best when I am on my motorcycle. When I am at a race, I am in my element.
Competitive Highlights
Although I did not compete in many races prior to the 2012 season, last year I attended nine races, and finished in the top three at eight of the races. I finished 2nd in points in the 125-250F Beginner class at the 2012 Nevada Championships hosted by Sierra Motocross Racing Association, even though I was bumped from the beginner class to the junior class. At the Gold Rush MX Park in Carlin, Nevada I won the Gold Cup Shootout in the 250F Beginner class. I feel that my accomplishments in 2012 are attributed to the maturity and experience of my age and a competitive motorcycle that has given me confidence.
