Personal History
Michael is an 9 year old that loves racing ATV's. He races in District 13 of the AMA. He races all over Virginia as well as North Carolina and Maryland. He started racing in the Spetember of 2010. He races a 70cc production Apex. He has a sponsorship with Apex for 2011. We get 20% off of parts when purchasing them through Apex. Michael is currently in 4th grade. His grades are good enough for honor roll all year long. His sponsorship with Apex helped him be a "model student" according to his teacher because the contract said he had to behave on and off the track. I currently tell him he has to maintain at least a "B" average in all classes if he wants to keep racing.
His favorite riders are Chad Reed and Travis Pastrana. When asks what he wants to do for a living, he says he wants to race ATV's because it's not as dangerous as fighting fires (my profession).
Riding Goals
His goals for this year is to run enough events to qualify for the end of the year banquet. He is currently racing against 11 and 12 year olds that are faster and more experienced than he is. He continues to have fun and gain experience. He wants to keep up with the faster quads. When we applied for the sponsorship from Apex, he told them he wanted his quad to look like the faster ones.
Competitive Highlights
In 2011, Michael won 2nd place overall in District 13 for the 70cc production class. He won the Grand Champion Series in 2011. He won the Mid Atlantic Winter Series in 2012. In 2012, Michael finished 4th place overall in District 13. He missed 3rd place by 1 point. He was disappointed, and he is more motivated for the upcoming 2013 season.
