Rider Updates

Feb 27 2009

I am pleased to announce that I have a new sponsor for the 2009 season- O'Neal Racing. I had a sponsorship with O'Neal in 1997 and look forward to returning to their race team. Look for my new Hardwear gear at the next race.

2009 has came at us fast and furious. Racing series have begun and the first amateur national is weeks away. My primary series, Texas Offroad Racing Series, has had 2 rounds of races. I did not make the first round due to an injury flare-up.

Round 2 came and we has an excellent track layout of mostly single-trail lines whittling through the trees. I decided to try a new class, Open B, for Saturday. I felt good in practice, and felt like I had top 5 potential for the day. I really knew the start was crucial since there was nowhere to pass. TORCS staff decided to use a dead engine start, and I don't practice those enough. I had a great jump, but fell to the rear of the pack. The train began as we entered the woods, and it took my a while to pass the leader of our lilttle pack. By then the race leaders had checked out and I did my best to finish out the laps strong. I ended up in 9th place for the day. Not too bad, not too good, but I will take it.

We now head to Cycle Ranch MX for round 3. It is a favorite of mine and we will see how we can prevail. I want to thank TJs Cycles, Braking , Choice Hotels, and Olearyracing.com for all the help.

Well Round 1 came along, and I was excited to move up to the "B" classes. My training showed improvements and I was feeling fast. My first race was in the 250 B class. After a decent start, I stalled my bike and had starting issues.

The next day was my pimary class, Over 30 B. With 15 riders on the line I pulled the holeshot. After a small fall, I fell to 10th place after lap 1. For the next 4 laps I worked hard and battled up to 5th place. On the 6th lap a mud rut pushed me into a tree and I ended up with a broken left leg.

I had surgey that afternoon, and have been recovering at home. I am in therapy, and have been hitting the gym. I should begin to ride again soon, with plans to train for several months. I hope to rejoing the series after the summer break.
