Riding Goals
Fortunately, I’ve had a very successful career in the US Air Force and I attribute much of my success to setting and achieving goals. For my off-road racing, the same holds true. I need goals that are attainable, but require dedication.
For 2011, my goals were to get five podium finishes in the desert series and three podiums in the Grand Prix series, both in the amateur class. These goals were lofty, but achievable. I fell short by only one podium in the desert series.
For 2012, my goals remain the same except one step farther. I want two wins. It will take dedication to fitness, agility training, and of course riding.
Competitive Highlights
For 2011, I had two distinct highlights.
The best highlight was the Jackrabbit grand prix race. I was coming back from a finger injury and my plan was to take it easy and ensure I finished the race. Once the gate dropped, instincts took over and I was the first to the corner. After holding the lead for much of the race, a good friend of mine battled me until the end. Fortunately, I won by a wheel.
The second highlight would have to be the Caliente desert race of 2011. The race was over 100 miles of tough terrain. Rocks, waterfalls, and steep uphills. Many riders decided to call it quits after the first 50, but I was back in fourth after the pit. I continued on for another 50 miles. My endurance was good and at the checkered, I was first in class.
