Personal History
Matt, how did you get started in dirtbike racing?
I have been interested in this sport since I was about 3 or 4.
Have you been riding that long?
No. My mom raised me and my sister by herself and she couldn't take me to a sport like this without help.
So when did you start racing?
I have only been racing for about 1 year. I have a neighbor that takes me 3 times a week for practice and racing.
Do you have any restrictions at home before you can continue with this sport?
YES!!! I have to maintain good grades. I am not allowed to get anything below a B in school and I have to work to pay for my own bike, gear and entrance fees.
Do you have a job?
Yes. I work at Pet Smart bathing dogs.
Riding Goals
I am seventeen years old and riding my Honda CRF 250 has been a lifetime dream. I started racing in August 2007. I finished the Summer Series at Dade City Motocross in 9th place in the 125 Beginner Class. There were about 35 racers in that Class. Right now I’m in 1rst place in the125 Beginner Class at Sunshine Motocross in the 07/08 Winter/Fall Series. I am looking forward to participating in the 2008 Dade City Championship Series that starts in February for 21 races in all. I am also considering competing in the Gold Cup this year.
I was unable to ride at an early age because my mom raised me and my sister by herself. I am now old enough to work and support my dirt bike racing. I work at Pet Smart bathing dogs. I can only work part time because I am still in high school and my mom expects me to get good grades if I am to continue with this sport. It is getting very expensive. I go to MX school at Sunshine every Monday night and open practice every Thursday night. Saturday is race day. Every time I go to the track to practice or race my rider fee is $25. I would like to compete in the 125/250 open but cannot afford it. My entry fees are about $75.00 a week plus I bought my Honda from a friend and have to make payments of $150. per month not to mention gas, repairs and maintenance. That is why I’m asking for your help.
There are about 150 riders at Sunshine and about 300 at Dade City plus their family and friends. If you sponsor me, I will display your Company name on my bike and my trailer. Sunshine and Dade City even have sponsor announcements during the races. If you have any other promotional suggestions, let me know. I promise to represent your Company well and continue to perform in a professional manner on and off the track. I’ve been on the Honor Roll at Countryside High School (or my mom will kill me). I have proven myself to be responsible with my family, friends, school work and my job. I would love to be able to continue in this sport and pursuit my life time dream. I’m starting to come in first in almost every race but it can be tough to be a 17 year old rider because your parents won’t pay (unlike the younger riders) and I can’t work too much or my grades will go down. Please help me with my dream and I will help you promote your Company.
