Personal History
My name is Matt Decker. I love motorcycles and have my whole life. I have grown up in western North Carolina, and have ridden dirt bikes for 11 years. I have competed for 8 years. I am currently 21 Years old and attend Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC where I am majoring in business economics, with plans of working in the motorcycle industry one day. I am maintaining a 3.0 GPA while I continue to train and practice as much as possible. I have a natural drive to compete and love the sport of Motocross.
Riding Goals
For the 2011 season, I would like to fulfill the goals I had for the 2010 season, which was cut short due to numerous injuries sustained in multiple practice crashes. I just couldn't seem to stay off the ground this year which is unusual. In the past few years, I have been racing hare scrambles and cross training with motocross, and this next year I would like to go back to my roots of motocross racing with cross training of Hare Scrambles. My goals for 2010 were to make it to Loretta Lynns in the 250 and 450C classes, and due to injuries these goals were not fulfilled. Due to my heavy work load in school I will be keeping my racing within 150 miles of where I am living, and bumping up to the 250/450B classes in motocross, as well as the 450B class in offroad events. Being My first year in the B class, I am really just looking to be consistent and further my skills while I transition to this next level of racing. My main goal for the upcoming year is to STAY HEALTHY!
Competitive Highlights
My first 7 years of competitive racing were spent racing motocross. My first race was in 80 Beginner where I pulled a 5th overall out of 20, and I was super pumped because I earned a trophy in my first race. That whole year I ended up 3rd In points in the local outlaw series in 80 beginner, with multiple top 3 finishes, but unfortunately due to a sandbagger, no wins. In 2003 I picked up a KTM amateur support ride with my local KTM dealer and began competing in Schoolboy classes as well as 125C. The few years were spent in those classes where I began winning races and becoming more and more consistent as a racer. In 2007 I began racing C class in hare scrambles with a little motocross on the side. My first two hare scrambles were the last two of the season and I pulled two top 5 finishes even when I had no clue what kind of conditioning hare scrambles take. The next two years (2008,2009) were spent racing hare scrambles, without completing a whole season due to some injuries. In 2009 I was running top 3 in points throughout the first 5 rounds in 4 stroke C class before breaking my shoulder in 2 places ending my season. Then 2010 was a disaster only getting to race one hare scramble before my transition back to motocross. Multiple practice crashes and broken bones cut it short.
