Rider Updates

May 25 2023

After the Area Qualifier, I wrote down what I needed to work on and adjusted my training and the tracks I would ride on until the Regional Qualifier.

The first change was changing from stock suspension to lighter spring. As I started to go faster over the past few months, the stock suspension was no longer working.

The second change was to practice getting into ruts for turns, straightaways, and jump faces. A lot of the tracks I had been riding are sand tracks and they don't really get rutted. I was able to ride a private track with ruts and crazy acceleration and breaking pumps then I made my way down to Glen Helen for during the week motos. They ripped the track deep and watered a lot, creating some deep ruts. I could take parts of the track, focus on the turns, and get comfortable in the ruts.

The last change was working on acceleration and brake bumps. Testing the suspension to work through the bumps and practicing charging them harder and faster was essential.

After visiting those tracks and and working on those items I will be ready for the regional and Fox Raceway.

Loretta Lynns Motocross Southwest Area Qualifier

After many months of training, I finally made it to the Southwest Area Qualifier. The Area Qualifier was hosted at Fox Raceway, which I have need ridden at before. In preparation for going to Fox Raceway, I took a trip a few weeks back to ride the track for the first time. I was able to pick up that track quickly. From there, I could focus on the parts that were tricker than others.

The Southwest Area Qualifier started on May 12 with practice. I picked up the track again quickly without any issues. Some track changes made my suspension a little off, but I made some final adjustments that made it perfect.

On Saturday, I was the 3rd moto, and my start did not go as well as I would have liked, but I quickly recovered and caught up to the pack. By the second turn, I went from dead last to 6th place and caught up to 5th place. There was some fast competition, but I was able to keep up with the front of the pack. I finished the moto in 6th.

During the second moto, I had a way better start. I was able to take the outside and cut in for 4th place going into the second turn. However, I made a mistake, got passed, and ended in 5th place. The track was really rough and dried out by the end of the moto. I got passed on the last lap putting myself into 6th; I got 6th overall and qualified 4th for the regional.

The next race will be the Southwest Regional Qualifier June 2-4. I am looking forward to the race and am currently working on some of my weaknesses on the track that kept me from 4th & 5th place.

I had my first ride of the year and it felt great! LACR did a wonderful job prepping the track with all the rain. If you have ever been to LACR you will know that it is more like sand track but today it felt like actual dirt. It was amazing. The new changes through me off a little but after the second moto I was able to clear the new obstacles and try a few old ones that I have not been able to clear until now. Today was a great ride day to start off the new year.
