Personal History

My name is Lyla van Breda

I am an 8 year old girl from South Africa. I live in a small town called Jan Kempdorp in the Northern Cape. At school I play netball and like to spend as much time as possible with my friends. My best friend ride quad bike, and our fathers practice together allot, then I get to ride with her and my little sister for fun without a coach looking at every second of my riding. My dad works out of the country allot and I find it very entertaining seeing my mom run up and down, trying to remember everything, trying to clean air filters and do bike prep work. I like doing races in other provinces because then my family and I always make a road trip out of it and there is never a dull moment with them. I started riding in 2017 and entered my first mx race only 1 week after getting my first ktm sx 50. I managed a 4th overall that day. The rest of the year I committed to doing motocross and getting better at riding and keeping up with the boys. This year I started to compete in endure racing and hare scrambles. I really enjoy this type of racing and will still compete in some regional mx races where the dates do not clash. Living in the Northern Cape means I have many different types of terrain to ride and train on and better all my skill sets, I also have 3 tracks that my dad and his friend build for me to practice different types of riding. Racing to me is not all about winning or being the best. Making new friends and seeing new places is just as important as the race itself, I can’t think of anything worse than not being liked by other riders and people next to the track. My Parents always tell me to celebrate a achievement but stay humble and never rub it in someone’s face, because the next race that person might beat you and you will get it back 10 times worse. I hope this gives you some insight into me, and thanks for taking the time to read this.

Regards

Lyla van Breda

Riding Goals

My long term riding goals is to be able to ride like Kirsten Landman, she is a hard enduro rider from South Africa and a well loved racer.

My short term goals is to finish top 5 in national junior enduro series, and to get chosen for the freestate mx team again for 2018.

I will be working on my riding skills allot to get ready to change over onto 65cc for 2019 season, I will however like to compete in atleast 2 65 cc races by the end of the year.
