What’s the plan

I suffered a nasty hip injury in early 2010. I am now fully healed and cleared to race. In 2014 I plan to race in AMA off road races with three organizations to see my new home of Albuquerque New Mexico has to offer.  The local organizations are New Mexico Desert Racing Series (NMDRC) , Webe Racing, Inc. and NMTA.

How I got into the sport
I am an expert level boarder by that I mean if it is on a plank I love it! I skate, mountain board, snowboard, kite boarding, and wake boarding. In September of 2006 I picked up a used 1999 KLX300 to be able to go ridding with my brother Sam. Sam and his friends used go ride about once a month during the season. After my first day out I get enough of the bike and wanted to go all the time. I found some riders online and about crashed into some at the local track. After a buddy introduced me to his favorite type of ridding “single track” it was over. I was officially hooked. After 2 months on the bike a friend dragged me to an AMRA off road single track race. I entered in the sportsman class and came out with a 3rd place finish. I have been going to every race I can make it too since. I tell everyone I know it’s never too late to start something new!

Riding Goals

Riding/ Training /Goals

My main style of racings is single track desert scrambles, enduro, restart enduro, and GP events. My main goal for this year is to move up in classes to Expert and race in several local organizations. This is going to be a very competitive class and a huge step for me personally because the races will go from 2 to 3 hours at a time. This goal will never be obtained by casually ridding weekends and hitting the MX track to show off my flat bill hat and new tattoo. I plan to improve this year by training with local experts and sticking to a strength and conditioning routine. My training will consist of minimum 2 days per week riding and 4 days per week in the gym. Gym training will include free weights, racket ball, long cardio routines (bike, run, swim), and yoga. Yea I said Yoga.

Competitive Highlights

At the AMA H/S National in Globe AZ I made a pass in the enduroX section at the end of the 3rd lap.  Sitting in first place on my XR400 with one full lap to go!  My game plan was to set it in cruse control and not make any mistakes. Now E-start.  “Smooth is fast smooth is fast” It felt like time slowed down that last lap they must have added a 5 mile extra miles. I herd someone come close a few times but I was able to hold my ground. When I could see the finish was just a few turns away I went buy hooting and hollering over the enduro-x tires for one last time. I GOT IT! 1st place!!!! The other guys pulled up next to me and we all started shaking hands and telling our race stories. It was a great moment I will never forget.
