Personal History
I am writing about my 5 year old son who has just begun motocross. Kolby has enjoyed motocross from the time he was in diapers. His uncle and he would watch it on TV while he drank his bottles. As he got older the only toy or game he ever played was motorcycles. If Kolby doesn't have a toy motorcycle in his hand he is running around the house pretending to be a motorcycle. Often his dad and I will hear him pretending to be an announcer. He is either announcing about his favorites like James Stewart or Ryan Villopoto or himself just winning a race. When I told him maybe he would be an announcer when he decided to be done with motocross he told me "I will never be done riding motocross!" Kolby is a very sweet boy who loves playing with his friends and being outside. Kolby loves nothing more than to be in the dirt. He also enjoys riding his bike, fishing and camping. He is in preschool and next year will start kindergarten. He is very excited to start school. Kolby has one older sister and one younger sister.
Kolby received his first dirt bike at the age of 3 for his birthday. He was very excited to see the Kawasaki in the garage. However, because he was so little it had training wheels on it. Kolby really didn't enjoy riding the bike with the training wheels so the bike was not used as often as we thought it would be. In March of 2010 Kolby was able to ride with no training wheels and decided he was ready to start racing. With little experience riding we were pretty nervous about already racing. We have a motorcycle club in Billings and we entered him for his first flat track race. Kolby also got his Honda CRF at this time and was excited to try it out. Both Kolby's uncle and cousin have been racing and thought this would be a great race for him to try. Kolby enjoyed his first race but was very nervous about racing. Kolby's uncle, cousin, and dad spend a lot of time with him practicing. Kolby decided he wanted to enter some of the 50 PW motocross races at the club. On his first race Kolby had parents that would follow him up the hills because it looked like he may not make it over the top. After each race Kolby was very excited and couldn't wait for the next race. During the summer of 2010 he also tried a hill climb. This was the first time Kolby ended up getting a trophy that wasn't just for participation. He was very excited. Over the summer Kolby practiced and entered a few more races. In the fall of 2010 he went to a race in ND. After the race on Saturday there was a school for the day on Sunday. Kolby, his uncle and dad were very excited on how well he did at the race and the school. Kolby Took home a second place for the race and really enjoyed the school. As soon as he got home he was ready to practice some of the things he had learned.
Living in MT it is very hard to find places to ride in the winter. Kolby's cousin had been going to SD each winter for an indoor series and we decided to let Kolby try one. The series is called the Rockstar series and is in Rapid City, SD. Kolby took 4th place in the first race and really wanted to return the next month for the race. We decided to continue going and he has now taken 2nd and at the last race had his first, 1st place. He is 2nd in the standings and can't wait for the next race. For Christmas he got the KTM he had been asking for and has been riding in the 50 open.
Kolby is a very young rider but is very determined to win. He loves everything about motocross. He loves watch the races almost as much as he loves being in the races. After just a year of racing we have learned how expensive this sport can be. Kolby has just begun but to keep going we are hoping we can find help from sponsors to cover some of the expenses.
Thanks for taking time to consider sponsoring him.
Sincerely,
The Kring Family
Riding Goals
We have put in an application to become members at the local motorcycle club. Over next year we hope to get Kolby more time out on the track practicing. We also hope to get him into at least one other school. Kolby’s goal is to be 1st in the 50 PW class in the spring series. He also wants to continue to improve his riding on the KTM.
