Personal History

My name is Kayla Laurin and I am from Hearst, Ontario, a small town in northern Ontario. I am currently 16 years old and I am studying full time at Laurentian University in Sudbury. I've been riding motocross since I am 7 years old. My brother got this KLX110 for his birthday. We were both using this bike and we had to share it. When the bike was too small, we bought a KX250F. I really liked this bike but I was tired of sharing it because we couldn't ride together so I decided to buy my own. I bought a KTM144SX 2 stroke. I used this bike for one summer but when I went racing with my brother’s bike that summer, I realized I wanted a 4 stroke. So, at the beginning of this summer I bought a brand new 2014 CRF250R. I am really happy about my choice too. I just started racing this summer. I did one race last year at the end of september but this was my first full summer of racing this year. I have finished top 4 in all my races. This year, I raced in the CMRC and the AMVA association. I did two races in the AMVA, 2 in the CMRC central and 1 in the CMRC southwestern. I also did one cross-country race in Walton from the WEC association just for fun. Last year, they built a track in Hearst so I try to go training as much as i can to get better. My dad just bought me a race trailer so now it's easier to travel for races and to participate in more. My parents are really big supporters because they are the one that brings me to all the races and that supports me in what I do. They are always there to encourage me and my dad always helps me for the maintenance or repairs on my bike.

Riding Goals

I ride because it is a great feeling for me. It makes me happy and makes me forget about all my problems. Also, the adrenaline of being at the gate with 20 other bikes revving beside you or the feeling of being launched in the air is just amazing. Motocross is a sport that I love and I wouldn't trade the opportunity of being able to ride for anything else. My goal for next summer is to do all the races at least with the CMRC central association and I would love to finish top three in the points at the end of the season. I'd also like to be able to go to the Walton Transcan nationals next summer and do other races like in Quebec or southern Ontario but that would be extras. I want to make it to every practice that I can at the track so I can really improve. And I also want to train all winter at the gym to be ready for the summer.

Competitive Highlights

I am a really athletic girl and I play a lot of sports. I have played hockey for 13 years, I've been in the swim team for 4 years and I am still swimming in university. I have won a lot of medals and trophies in these 2 sports. I went to provincials in both sports as well. I also played school volley-ball for 5 years. Competition either in a team or by myself has always been a part of me. In motocross, I have two 2nd places, three 3rd places, one 1st place.
