My name is Justin Funkhouser and I'm in my fourth season of racing. I love it! I race in Oregon and my favorite tracks are PIR, Mountain View and Washougal. I also love racing indoors in the Clark County Arenacross series. My favorite motocross rider is Ryan Villopoto! Gotta support our local rider!
This past year, I moved up to a big bike! I am now riding a Honda CRF 250r.
Besides motocross, I also play baseball and football and can often be found riding my bmx around the neighborhood. I also love to ride my dirtbike in the deserts of Central and Eastern Oregon. I like the challenge of desert riding and it's something I get to do with my whole family.
I hope to be able to ride my motorcycle for the rest of my life!
Riding Goals
I just moved up to race on a big bike . I have crf 250r and ride in the 250 class. My goal for this past indoor arenacross season was to get faster. I earned some podium placements, including a 1st in one heat and an overall 3rd for that race. For the season, I earned 4th overall. Not bad for the young kid!
I am working on my starts, cornering and jumps. I am learning how and when to shift to ensure that I carry my momentum through the corners and over the jumps. I can now easily double most jumps, so I am working on tripling jumps whenever it is safe.
Competitive Highlights
In my first indoor arenacross season on my 250r, I finished 1st in one heat and 3rd overall for that race. I had several 4th place finishes and finished 4th overall for the series.
Earlier in 2013, I started racing my new 250r on outdoor tracks, including MountainView. It was a huge learning experience to be racing against full grown adults, some of whom have been riding longer than I have been alive. I consistently placed 7-9th in a class that ran 16-20 riders per race. Not too shabby for the youngest rider in the class.
In the first arenacross race of 2012, I placed 1st and 2nd in the 85 Beginner classes that I raced. It had been a while since I was on a bike, so I decided to start back in the beginner class as a practice. That class proved to be too easy for me, so the second week of racing, I decided to move up to the junior and supermini class. These are some of the fastest kids in my area and I am excited to learn from them this season.
In 2012, which was my second season racing, I finished 3rd in one 85 class and 5th in a second 85 class in the I-5 arenacross series sponsored by Promoto Promotions out of Vancouver, Washington. In the 2010-2011 season, my first racing season, I finished 7th in overall points in the 65cc Beginner class in this series.
After the end of the arenacross series in 2011, I moved outdoors to race at Portland International Raceway in the Thursday Night Motocross and Red Bull Dirty Dozen series. I started in the 60CC Beginner class, but pointed out of the class in July, with multiple top-5 finishes, and moved up to the 60CC Junior class. I finished 4th overall in the Beginner class.
I also raced the 2011 series at MountainView Motocross park in Sandy, Oregon. In my first race in the 65CC Beginner class, I finished 2nd! I rounded out the season with a 5th and 4th place overall and finished 4th place in points.
