Personal History
Hey what's up, I'm Josh and I am love Motocross! I've been riding dirt bikes since I was 4 years old, but I just started racing competitively in 2007. In my first year I exceeded my goals to place top 5 in 125 Intermediate, by winning the championship! I also placed in the top 5 in the Youth class and got 2nd overall in the 250 Junior class at the BC Motovan Provincial Championships so I was very happy with my season.
My 2008 sophomore season as well as my 2009 season did not go to plan at all. After spending all winter training and getting pumped to race in the summer both seasons ended early with injuries. In 2008 I tore my ACL one week before the first race and had to sit out the entire summer until I could get surgery. I got surgery on my ACL in October of 2008 and started training for the 2009 season as soon as the doctors let me. Well, the 2009 season didn't go as planned either. In one of my first rides of the season I swapped out at a super high speed ended up with a seperated my shoulder and a collapsed lung. That put me out for a few weeks but I was determined not to let it end my season. 5 weeks later I lined up for my first race in almost 2 years, excited to finally be back racing. But it wasn't meant to be. After getting 4th in my first moto in the 125 expert class I lined up for the 2nd moto determined to win. However, after getting a terrible start I was fighting my way through the pack until I came into contact with another rider a sweeper. He got lucky and kept it on 2 wheels while I took one of the worst soil samples of my life. I ended up breaking my T6, T7 and T8 vertebrae in my back and needed to get rods put in to stabilize my spine. I was out for the season again.
After getting back surgery I was so dissapointed in myself for crashing out 2 seasons in a row and not being able to achieve my goals. Both seasons I had set myself up with great sponsors and I was even going to try out a few pro nationals in Canada both years. It's tough when you put in so much work and have your dreams crushed in a heart beat but you can't let it get you down.
In September of 2009 I decided to go to University to pursue an Engineering degree and planned to start racing again in the summer of 2010. Well, one good thing about 2010 is that I had no injuries at all! And while I didn't make it to any motocross races I was able to get back to riding and remember why I loved this sport so much. I rode a lot of trails during the summer of 2010 and even did a couple cross country races, which was a lot of fun.
Now, I'm back in school for the winter and can hardly wait to get riding again!
The next season I was sidelined because right before the first race I tore my ACL and needed to get surgery on that which was a real bummer.
Asides from Motocross I enjoy many sports such as soccer, snowboarding, mountain biking, and wakeboarding just to name a few, and I also really enjoy working out and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. In the summers I enjoy camping and hiking with a few buddies and just having an all around good time. I'm really passionate about everything I do in life, and I always make big goals for myself. Next September I plan to go to the University of Alberta to study Structural Engineering if I don't make it to the pro level in MX.
Riding Goals
My goals for the up coming season are to first of all get back into motocross racing. I plan to race the 125 Expert and Youth Class in the Peace Motocross Association and I would really like to try and race a couple CMRC races. I also plan on racing as many cross country /hare scramble races as I can across BC and win as many as I can. I feel with my motocross background and technical ability from riding trails all last summer that I could be a real threat in the cross country races.
Competitive Highlights
In my first year of racing I won the 125 Intermediate Championship in the PMA, and I placed 5th overall in the Youth class. I went to the Motovan B.C Provincial Championships at the end of the summer, and I placed 2nd overall in MX2 Junior, and 3rd overall in MX3 Junior.
