Rider Updates

Jul 25 2009

Picked up the new Pro Senior on Thursday.  Right away installed a larger front sprocket to get more speed out of it.  And right away realized the bike runs way too lean and won't last long.  Moved up from an 85 main jet to a 90.  And dad burned his arm twice on the silencer (the old bike didn't get this hot...).  Give me some Two 2 Cool!

Over the Winter a rep from Millville called us to interview Josh.  All the 2008 Millville double class champions were interviewed and those interviews are in the Millville magazine.  Check it out, he's the first one listed.

This was a great weekend for us.  Once he figured out the hills Josh loved the big track and flew around like he rode there all season.  The 50cc track was redesigned and vastly improved including a woop section.  Josh skipped that idea and turned it in to one double to save time.

Four hours of training can't hurt.  He and his older sister attended the moto school most of the day.  They worked on starts, turns, jumps, and a couple sections of the track.  It was very exciting to see them both improve.  We came back from lunch to see everyone practicing the big Cities Edge jump.  It's easy to double it but very few go fast enough to triple it so I told them both to at least try.  In short order both Kyra and Josh were landing the triple; very exciting.  And finally Josh did the step up jump 100% which was another accomplishment that day.  After the training he rode the five hour practice session.  Give me some of that energy.

This was a great race day at Kellogg.  The track was perfect and the weather too.  Josh rode like a mad man on the 65 hitting the biggest jump on the track every lap.  It's the long table top by the grassy observation area.  The first time he did it I (the dad) just about had a heart attack.  Going that fast there's no room for a mistake and he did it over and over.  I raced that day in +45 B class and did't hit it even once.

The new Pro Senior held up well despite being pounded on all day Saturday during practice.  At the end of the race the motor was really sizzling.

This was a goal of ours from last year - to achieve a class champship again at Millville.  Moving up from the 4 - 6 premix class to the 7 - 8 class and also moving up to the 65cc bike was a big step.  We went for the class championship 1) because we could, and 2) because winning the class championship would be a great experience (again), and 3) who cares if the AMA 7 year old races the little Mini Adventure again.  For those who didn't like getting spanked, we sold the Mini and are now focused on the 65 7 - 9 class for the next Millville race.

Raced at Staples last weekend 6/7/09.  We usually stick with the Southern MN tracks but wanted to battle with the top "up North" kids this time and actually have some competition.  Turns out only three racers showed at the Southern track (Mankato). Despite the weather forecast, the die hard 2nd year 7-8 class veterans were there riding 2009 KTMs and Cobras.  Saturday's practice was good but was cut short due to rain.  Sunday started with a wet track but dried out nicely by lunch time.  Josh did well in the first moto and got 2nd behind one of the 2009 KTMs.  Second moto was more difficult and Josh fell twice.  After a solid drive to catch the leaders the race ended with Josh in fourth.  It was a good day of riding but Josh wants a rematch.  We will see them again this weekend at the Regional Qualifier.

For the record, Josh wanted to race the 65 also but it was the last race of the day and if we did it meant we would get home way late.  He did practice it though...

We had a great weekend.  Josh rode a perfect four out of four motos in the 4 - 8 Oil class.  In the 7 - 8 class there were about 20 racers both days.  He earned second place on Sunday and first place on Monday despite a very fast and talented Cobra rider giving chase.
