Personal History
I am an Active Duty Senior Chief in the US Navy Stationed in Misawa Japan. i have spent most of my life playing music and photography, and only recently cought the motocross bug. A dear frind of mine, introduced me to the sport in 2008 and I quickly went full in for my kids. I have two boys ages 9 and 11 who are quickly learning techniques and skills with MX racing. Unfortunatly, since I am Active duty, right after we entered the sport, I had to leave on the ship for a long period of time and my boys did not get to ride while I was gone. However, now that I am off of the ship for the next few years, we can finally commit to it on a more serious note.
We love being in Japan, and the motocross scene here is very exiting. the Japanese racers are fun to be around and love to learn about Amercians and how, what,we do in the US in terms of motocross. I am over 40, but that does not keep me from my number one goal in life: Have fun. I am living proof that you are never too old to enjoy life, and age is a state of mind. Yes, I realize that I am not as fast as the young kids, and maybe I dont go big (yet) and air it out like they do, but at the end of the day, I look back with a smile on my face and reflect on the experiences, fun, and fulfillment I had with my friends and family and think how lucky I am to be in Japan riding a dirt bike!
Riding Goals
Since I really am a beginner rider, my goal this year is to get in better shape, really nail down the fundamentals of clutch control, cornering, and technical aspects of MX. As i do this, i know that more seat time will also help me gain confidence and start attacking areas of the track that I roll through. I have a great support group that are what i would consider A or B riders who are coaching me.
Competitive Highlights
I guess since I just finished my first ever race...Ever...that my highlight would be fininishing both motos, not getting hurt, and having fun....Gotta start somewhere-right?
Oh yeah, when you are on the track and getting really tired, keep breathing through your nose! its no fun getting roosted when your mouth is open!!!
Update: April 2013. Looking back at this post is very amusing! I just finished my first complete season and finshed 25th out of 39 overall. I guess thats not too.bad. My skill drastically improved over the year! Unfortunalty, i am not racing this year since i re-injured my back diring practice. I am still riding for fun though. My boys ages 9 and 12 did outstanding thought! both finished 2nd in the points. they are classing up this year to 65 and 85, so it will be even more intetresting! Stay tuned for more updates!!!
