Personal History
Hi, my name is Jonathan Champa and I am 14 years old. I will be a freshman at Mountain View High School in Bend Oregon. I am a strong “B” student and will be taking all honors classes my first year. My goal for high school is to take college courses in high school. I would like to complete 1 year of college while still in high school. I only have a couple of sports that I seriously love which is racing my dirt bike and roller hockey. I started playing roller hockey when I was 8 years old. I started dirt biking when I was 9 years old. I fell in love with the sport instantly. Since we moved to Bend Oregon in 2006 my mom has been supporting me in my racing. I can really see it is hard for a single mom to support me financially and getting me to the races. I have learned to do all my own repairs on my dirt bike. All I can do is think about dirt biking. I basically live, eat and sleep dirt biking. In 2007 I did my first race at Redmond Oregon. I did pretty good and got 3rd place. I raced the whole season in 2008. My first race at Sandy Oregon I took 1st place. I continued to race all over Oregon. I started 2010 off with a Honda 250R. My first race with my new bike was in Albany Oregon where I received 4th place. I have been continuing to race as much as my mom can afford it. My last race was at Portland International Raceway and I took 1st place in the 250 beginner class. My dream is to become and race professionally. Every time I go riding I work on becoming faster and more technical with my racing. I love this sport and I love the people you meet at the events. I am very grateful for the sport of motocross and to have my mom with me every step of the way which is just great.
Riding Goals
My goals for the 2011 season are to ride as much as I can, have fun, and stay healthy. I intend to condition more by do other sports and enrolling in a weight lifting class at school, eating healthy will also be a major part of my strategy. It will be my first full season on my CRF250R and I plan to get some first place finishes. I expect to be competing in many series events such as Mt. View MX and Oregon State Championships. I will be traveling around Oregon and Washington to race at Washougal MX, Rouge Valley MX, PIR Motocross, Mt View MX, Albany MX, Salem Arena cross, Woodland, Eugene MX, and Madras MX.
Competitive Highlights
My highlights of racing career so far would be Redmond arena cross in 2007, which was my first race. My first win at Mt View MX in 2008, after that I went on to win at Mt View MX and madras MX in 2008, I had my first 250 win at Thursday Night Motocross on August 26, 2010. I have crashed pretty hard a couple times and been in the hospital but I went through my recovery and got right back on my dirt bike. I would just say every race; every win is a highlight for me.
