Rider Updates

Jun 9 2014

Well, I was talked into entering my first ever woods race on Friday. It was pretty last minute and I had never done any trail riding on two wheels before, so I wasn't expecting much. I feel like I actually rode fairly well, all things considered. My bike setup is FAR from optimal for that type of riding but it was quite a bit better than I thought it would be. For the most part, I was even with the middle of the pack but one hard packed, rooted hill gave me fits. I eventually got it somewhat figured out but I had already lost quite a bit of time on it at that point. I had a couple falls and my finish was nothing to write home about. I learned quite a bit more about technique on two wheels, so I still consider it a success.

Well, I had a pretty decent ride Tuesday night. While it was my best finish to date on two wheels, it was still a little disappointing. After getting bumped off the line and pushed off the track in the first turn, I put my head down and just tried to work my way through the pack. I picked off a few guys by braking late and stealing their line. On the second lap, I started double - triple - tripling a rhythm section instead of doubling all the way through and passed a few more guys there over the next couple laps. I was in third on the second to last lap when first and second tangled in a corner, letting me by. I took the white flag and just tried to run a conservative, safe lap and take the win but that didn't quite happen. The back end packed up in a really rough corner and my lack of experience really bit me. The rear tire swapped to the inside and, when I tried to straighten it back out, I went a little too far and high-sided. I might not have been able to save it either way, though. Luckily, my bike starts on the first kick and I was quickly riding again. One guy slipped past and I ended up in second. While it was disappointing, it was still the most comfortable I've ever felt on two wheels and I'm definitely riding better. I'm looking forward to my next chance.

Wow. I didn't expect to be getting this much help from so many awesome companies so quickly after returning to mx. I'm excited to be riding for a lot of new sponsors (Risk Racing, PanicRev, O'Neal, ASV, Smith Optics, Ryno Power, and One Industries) and to be back with some of my old sponsors, Tag and SixSixOne. I look forward to the added performance and safety these new companies will offer. As far as experiences that I've personally had with these companies in the past, they have been nothing but positive, from safety equipment to bike parts. When I had my huge wreck on a quad, I was using Tag T2's. My chrome-moly stem was folded all the way back against my gas cap but the bars were perfectly straight.

Doing a pretty big overhaul on the bike right now, it's down to basically the frame, bottom end, and the swingarm. It was about due for a top end and a fork seal just refused to stop leaking. If it's down, it might as well be done 100%.

Here's a big thanks to Pirelli and Decal Works for getting on board!!

After being out of the mx scene since 2006, I finally got back in the sport about a month ago. Everybody knows how expensive the sport is so it's great to be getting some help from Streamline and Twin Air.
