Personal History

I first began racing in 1973. I raced AMA District 4 in Upstate NY. At that time I was riding a Yamaha ATMX. I continued racing every week in 1974 riding the 125AM class on a YZ125, the 250AM class on a YZ250A, and late in the season got a YZ360B and ran Open AM. In the beginning of 1975 I went to Florida to ride. I came home, turned expert and raced AMA District 3 in the Open Expert class. I tied for first with Bob Harris, national # 22 at the time. In 1976 things started coming together riding in the 250 and Open Expert class on a YZ250C and a MX400B. That season I got my pro license riding the local Pro Nationals and also finished 2nd in the 250 class and 3rd in Open Expert AMA District 3. In the winter of 1977 I went to race the Winter Pro Series in Florida. During that time I was able to secure the Team Yamaha Support ride for the Upstate NY area. I rode AMA District 3 250 Expert and Open Expert classes that year finishing 2nd and 1st respectively. At that time I was riding the Local Nationals, Trans Am, and Canadian Nationals. For 1978 I was once again riding for Yamaha, winning the Open Expert class and getting 2nd in the 250 Expert class in District 3. I also ventured to compete in the Canadian Nationals in 1978 and got a 2nd place in one round behind Jo Jo Keller at Mount Laval, Quebec. In 1979 I lost my Yamaha ride and Maico picked me up to race local district 3 events on a Magnum 400. That year I took 2nd overall in Open Expert. In 1980 I purchased a YZ465 and campaigned District 3 to 4th place overall. In 1981 I rode a YZ490 and took 3rd overall. In 1982 I rode a KTM250 for my final expert season. In 1983 and 1984 I concentrated on working the family farm until 1985 when I raced ATVs for 2 years with some success. I hung up the helmet in 1987 for what I thought was forever. My nephew convinced me to ride again in 2002 at the Mini O’s in Gatorback on a YZ125 in the +40 B class. I took 17th place overall and realized I had the bug again. I moved back to upstate New York so I could ride again. In 2005 I started playing around riding motocross in Upstate NY. In 2009 I took 3rd overall in the +50 class for the Outlaw MX Series. I also went 1st overall in the +40 B and +50 classes for the Outlaw MX Series in 2010. In 2011 and 2012 I took 1st overall in the +40 B and +50 class for the Upstate MX Series. In December 2012 I became the 1st person to be inducted in the newly created Upstate Motocross Hall of Fame.
