Personal History

As an AMA professional motorcycle hillclimber, I take my sport very seriously. I work hard to be the best I can be. I have national titles in amateur and professional hillclimbing. At this level of racing, my ambition requires additional support. The purpose of my letter is to convey my riding ability, dedication, and interest in acquiring your company as a sponsor. I believe you’ll find me to be a candidate worthy of sponsorship.

In 2014 I brought my racing program to the next level. I purchased the two hillclimb bikes that I raced on from 2010-2013 and did a major overhaul on the bikes. The bikes are a Yamaha R1 and a Yamaha R6 custom built, running on 100% nitro methane.  This is a direction I felt was a must to be able to ride and compete better and look as professional as I possibly could with the support I was receiving. I may be a little bias but I think we have the best looking/working bikes in the pits. We were able to prove our bikes and I’m able to say that my sponsors are reaping the benefits of sponsoring me as I’ve seen other riders seek out their parts. I fully understand the ultimate goal in sponsorship and love seeing it work the way it’s supposed to.

In 2014 I raced the VP Racing Fuels AMA Pro Hillclimb Series. After winning the AMA Pro Hillclimb Unlimited Class in 2013 the goal is to always win and 2nd place is just a bad day. As the season went on I battled for the top spot with two other riders in the Xtreme and Unlimited Class. The Unlimited Class championship was decided at the last race of the year. Another rider and I were tied for 1st place going into round 8 of 8. Round 7 I was in a must win situation and was the last rider of the day and pulled out the Fastest Time of the Day averaging 59mph up a 500ft hill with four big jumps in it. When I landed the force pulled my shoulder out of the socket leaving it very loose for round 8. Two weeks later was round 8. With help from my physical therapist they set me up with a pretty good brace, but not really knowing what my shoulder could endure if made it tough to go all out. I eased into it and on my last run gave it everything I had putting down a decent run to take the championship but my competitor came back and just edged me out leaving me with 2nd overall in the championship.

After having my #1 plate taken from me when I wasn’t the healthiest I am so motivated to get it back in 2015. After multiple doctor visits to see what the best way to go about getting my shoulder back to 100% we have decided on surgery. We will be ready for 2015 when it’s time to go racing. I have started looking into personal trainers to work with for when I’m ready to get back to work. I am taking this very seriously because I do not want a nagging injury to ever get in my way of a championship ever again.

What I would like to do for 2015 season is something that is starting to take off but has never been done before in the sport of hillclimbing. Hillclimbing is growing. I would like to get enough funding to have a photographer with me at my races to film and do rider interviews and get behind the scenes footage. This idea will offer the fans a different look of what it takes and what I go through at the races and at home training. This also gives my sponsors more spotlight then just standard media encounters and podium speeches. With having 8-9 races in the season I would like to produce about 11 episodes showing racing, interviews, behind the scenes footage, prep, training etc.  In 8 races this year I had 12 podium finishes and 6 of those being 1st place. Let’s work together bringing your company to the top step of AMA Pro Hillclimb.

Please consider this letter a request for sponsorship. I look forward to your reply.

Sincerely,

Jay Sallstrom
