Rider Updates

Jan 30 2006

Whats up guys? This past weekend I raced the MUDDER at San Francisco SX for the fourth RD. of amp'd mobile SX series. I had a good time in practice and felt extremely strong headed into the night show.

I had a tough time since I left the gate from heat 2 until my night ended. I didn't make it through the first corner with vision. I was struggling to get vision until I threw the goggles away. I fell back a little ways after struggling with my lines then picked it back up and caught up to 8th in my heat.

My semi however didn't go as planned. I again didn't have any vision through the first corner and was in a pile of riders just past that. I made it back on track and fell one lap later in corner 2. I could not pick the bike up and once I finally got it up I spent 2 laps (while my competition was riding) trying to start my machine. This ended my night.

I felt really good going into the race. The best I have felt all season, but the mud changed things in a matter of time and it became survival. Many of you were there and witnessed all of this, so I just want to end by saying that I will be ready for A3 and I appreciate all the support. Thank you all

Hey everyone, whats up? The past few weeks have been one lesson after another! I have been ironing out the problems and making progress each week. I will be headed to San Fran next weekend and will be looking for a spot on the starting line for the SX Main.

A1: Made the night show pretty easily although I didn't feel the best on the track. The track was really, really technical by the way. I finished a little ways back in my heat race. 13th I think. I holeshot my semi and led for about a lap. I was passed by Jason Thomas and Mike Larocco. Soon after, I made a mistake in the whoops and was picking myself up off the ground. I came back in the LCQ and finished way back after a bad start, 12th I think.

Pheonix: I stalled the bike in the first turn of the pre qualifer after getting the holeshot(on the right side of the split) but charged back to 10th. Top 9 qualified. I won the LCQ. I was feeling good for the night show. Bad start in the heat race and finished a ways back. The semi I was running a few spots back. About 9th or so and worked my way up to 7th, missing the show by 2. The LCQ was not the best either. I had a decent start and was running around 7th. I came up on Doug Dehaan and we entered the with myself taking the same line as he and I stalled the bike in anticipation of him hammering the whoops in which he chose to jump through them. My mistake and it cost me. I got the bike going and passed a few more guys.

A2: 2nd in pre-qualifying. I had a decent start in the heat and was pushed out a few turns later by the pack and finished in 12th I believe. The semi. I started in 3rd or 4th. I was passed by a faster rider(Preston I think) and was the last qualifiing position. Clark was charging up on me and made a pass but only after I made him work for it. I was riding above my head and made a mistake and went through the hay bails. I picked it up and charged again but only passed one rider. LCQ, I was 3rd in the start. Passed a K

My bike was making weird noises before sound check and I was unsure if I would be able to race. Luckily my mechanic and I worked with the guys from Yamaha to figure it out.

I went out and put in some great laps, but had to go to the LCQ. In the LCQ I got a great start and ran 2nd place for most of the race. I got passed by Jeff Gibson and finished 3rd. The good news is that I won the Racer X gas card and got interviewed. It was a blast because there were several factory guys in the LCQ that didnt make it.

I felt great all weekend and felt my lap times were good enough for me to make it into the main. Willy Browning and I were some of the fastest guys in un-seeded practice. I qualified for the evening program easily, but couldnt put those results in the heats to qualify for the main. It was still a blast.

Felt reall good in practice and qualified easily in the qualifiers. The first heat was gnarly as the whoops section was eating people alive. I struggled to get farther up the pack. Semi1, I took the holeshot and ran for a lap before getting chased down by Mike LaRocco. Shortly after, I went down in the whoops and my night was over.
