Rider Updates

Oct 24 2011

I haven't updated in a while so here are my results from some recent NETRA Hare Scrambles races:

2011-07-31 - Rocky Mountain - C Vet 3
2011-09-04 - State Line - C Vet 7
2011-09-18 - Tina Michelac Memorial - C Vet 3
2011-09-25 - Richardson's Farm - C Vet 8
2011-10-02 - Woods-O-Cross - C Vet 5
2011-10-16 - Hard Knox - C Vet 3

Overall, some pretty good results.  Moving me into 4th place for the chase for C-VET championship with 3rd place in sight.  Just a quick blurb on my two "not so great finishes".

The State Line and Richarson's Farm races were "mudfests".  I fare OK in these conditions but in the State Line race I smacked a tree pretty good resulting in a clutch lever break and some crooked bars.  I managed to finish the race but not as well as I had hoped for.

Richardson's Farm was bittersweet for me.  This was a rock race; where I trive!  I had a good start entering the woods around 3rd or 4th.  The first rock section was brutal for most but not for the 300XCW.  Keep it straight and steady and that motorcycle is unstoppable.  I passed my class and then some.  I was phyched to be out front but a water hole had different plans for me.  I lost some footing in some deep water and put the air box under.  I pulled the bike out, kicked relentlessly as I watched my entire class go by.  45 minutes later I was push and towed by a quad and was able to get some spark.  I completed the race a lap down and still managed an 8th place finish.

On another note, I tried my hand at my first NETRA Enduro, the Tri-State in Oxford, Mass.  What a great time!  I was able to finish 2nd in my class and 5th OA.   I recieved the 1st place trophy because the OA winner was from my class.  I'll be competing in a few more of these next s

For four of the five laps I was in 2nd but a late lap bobble caused me to give up a position.  Course was technical and the competition was formidable.

The 300 XC-W was incredible.  It can really save your butt when you make mistakes and rides on rails through the rocks.  Without exaggeration, I passed 20-30 riders in the rocks during this race.

An overall finish of 25th is my best so far.  Top 15 is in sight!

I finished 4th place at the Mountain Lion Mayhem hare scrambles in Eastford, Connecticut.  This was a sanctioned NETRA event where I was scored as 2nd place amongst point chasing competitors.  A first place finish is on the horizon!

I finished 5th place in the C-VET class in the NETRA Spring Challenge and took home a trophy.  The eight mile course was rocky single track which made it hard to pass.  Riders were having trouble in the mud filled rock gardens.  I took advantage of that by passing 5 or 6 in these sections.  I had fourth place in my sights but bobbled a bit and he got in the gates seconds before me.  I'll get 'em next time!

Attempted my first enduro in Green Banks, NJ riding the 74th Sandy Lane Enduro.  Super tight single track with whooped sand sections.  Very tough course but I was smiling the whole time.  I placed 10th in C-Senior.  Not too bad considering I was learning the enduro game; like a chess on dirt bikes.

First time on the KTM 300 XC-W.  What a great bike!

I will be doing more Enduros in the NETRA series.
