Rider Updates

TORN Round 7 and season update. Managed to pull a 2nd place finish for this race. I grew my gap for the season points lead from 9 to 12 points This race site suits me well and has become a favorite location. It has a good variety of MX, tight trails and open terrain. I really focused on keeping a faster pace in the tight woods sections and looking as far ahead as possible. This resulted in a lot faster lap times than my previous race and the rest of the class. First place finished 9 seconds ahead of me after 1:10 plus min race. The result of pushing in the tighter terrain left me little time or place to breath or relax. My last lap my time grew from 13:30 average to 14:50. This tells me I need to focus on conditioning and will start cross fit to help me achieve my goal. Next season I will most likely have to move to Intermediate class. Comparing lap times I can be competitive in the top 5 only if I am in top shape and can push to the very end of each race. It has been a great year with many new friends and races. 3 races left to finish out the points lead. What she me luck and safety.

TORN Round 3 Crafton
Wow. What a fun race. This race had a lot of really tight woods with a good mix of open terrain and flat track sections. After some clutch adjustments I was able to pull second on the hole shot. I kept first place close until a technical downhill creek crossing. I choose wisely and picked a different line that allowed me to make the pass for first place. I quickly put as much distance between 2nd place for the next lap. In the fourth lap I had settled down into a pace but a couple riders in the class had closed the gap. Obviously I had slept wed down to much to conserve energy. 2nd place was super fast in the woods and I allowed him to pass before I made a mistake. From that point it was a cat and mouse game. I would reel him in in sections then we would hit the tight woods and he would pull away. Going into the fifth and final lap we had begin to catch lap traffic. 1st managed to make some quick passes and increased the gap between us. I pushed hard but to regain the ground before the checker flag. Lesson learned. I can't back of in the woods with the class. They are more at home in this terrain and will close the gap on me. I'd rather finish spent that 2nd. Either way the post race conversation was a blast as we all had a blast trying just stay ahead of each other.

TORN Round 2 Oak Hill MX. 2nd place. Didn't get a great start and a few 100 yards into the race I tried to pull a pass on some guys bogged down in a tight section. The result landed me in last place. After a couple laps a spectator let me know I was setting in 5th place. I found some motivation and started pushing at every opportunity to cut some distance between the guys I could see. On the last lap I managed to pull a couple passes for 2nd place. Thankfully the race was over cause I spent EVERY ounce of energy I could find.

TORN Texplex season opener. Started the 2017 TORN season of with a first ever 1st place in Cross Country events. The terrain was hard packed and fit my style well. Almost missed the second turn and had to brake and get back on track. At this point I had dropped to 8th place. The 4 stroke had an advantage in the flat track hard pack corners and I was able to make some great passes in the first lap for the lead. We all had lap traffic and had caught the line in front of us 1/2 way into the first lap. I tried to use the lap traffic and gain as much ground before tight sections of the loop. The track had some mild motocross sections that I used for a lot of passing. After 5 10+ min laps I finished a min ahead of second place. We will have to see how I stack up against the class in more native terrain to them. It should be a fun exciting season of racing.
