Personal History
My name is Jacob Ray. I am originally from Michigan and came to Texas for college. At that time I was a collegent polevaulter, training 8 hours a day for college level athletics is not so different then training for racing.
I didn't grow up riding. I came into dirt bikes pretty late in the game. I spent my 20s riding street bikes and building muscle cars which was awesome!
Nothing beats absolutely sending a dirt bike over a rocky section you've never seen. So, I was 32 when I started riding off-road. I put around 200 hours a year into training. I took Training serious and instead of going on long rides in the mountains, I spent hours each day doing drills that I watch professional riders do. I studied the practices of professional riders and that became my routine.
In those 2 years, I went from falling over every time I touched the grass to fighting for the podium. Plain and simple, I put in the work. Day in and day out, sunshine or rain, I pushed to improve. While most people are out on the weekends riding the scenic routes, I'm hitting the hill climbs that are "impossible," or riding the dry riverbeds that even the goats don't like walking in.
I may be late to the game, but I am going to play it harder than anyone else.
Riding Goals
My goals are simple but expoentially difficult. Be better every ride. Learn from failure and push to do things that scare me.
That sounds simple enough but eventually you find that the only way to improve is to absolutly send it up a 12 foot ledge. I have found the best way to keep improving now is to train as many different disciplines as possible.
This year is my first year competing in the top levels. Previously I only competed in the lower tiers but I have worked extremely hard and want to push myself along side the best. Wish me luck as I try to chase down a much younger group of riders.
