Personal History
I am Garrett Newey, I am a sophmore at Hampden Academy. I am a A's and B's student. but I am in the engineering program and I have just recently built a hovercraft from scratch. fully functioning RC Hovercraft. My dad has a tree and land care company called Gunnett tree and land care. We live in the county of Winterport Maine. During COVID 2020 my dad, brother and I made a 1 minute and 50 second lap time motocross track around our house. I ride because of the love I have for MotoCross. My dad used to race back when he was a young adult and has shared his passion for racing. Growing up Chad Reed was my idol and still is. I absolutely loved to watch the pros on tv and have done so since I can remember. I would ride around on my little 50 imagining I was one of the pros. My dad was also in the military, still riding until he injured himself while he was deployed. Motocross has created a bond with my dad and me, my happy place is motocross and on the bike. My dad has been the biggest influance for my love of the sport and is always coaching me to be better and faster. We use his equipment from his business to build and take down the trees and make jumps. With me Running both his Excavator to grapple trees and to dig dirt, to making the track smooth with a tracked skidsteer. I know how to operate every piece of machinery he owns and I have also would work all day in the summer with him and then to riding at the end of the day. And riding on the weekends.
Riding Goals
My riding goals have to always improve from the previous motos i've had. either its a practice or a race i still strive for my best effort. I have always dreamed of being on top, that being my #1 goal out of anything. another goal is to learn from my mistakes. whenever I crash, I don't just throw down my helmet and quit. I go over that part of the section to figure out what i did wrong and what I could learn from it. My goals for this year is to wake up at 5 in the morning, eat breakfast, Ride one 30 minute moto, get ready for school, the come home to workout or help my dad with work. I want to ride a lot more this year and Race more as well as i'm getting my license soon. Also here in Maine we have mud season where everything is mud and every track is unrideable. our track is placed in a swamp kinda so it can get really muddy. that could set me back. I also have a corner track in my grandparents orchard. i will never take failure as an option.
Competitive Highlights
I have only raced 3 times in the span of 3 years. 2020, Winchester speed park in New Hampshire was my first every race. I didn't get the position I wanted but I didn't get last. I crashed so hard on my old CR 125 that i bent the subframe and the paramedics had to come over. I just saw a little stars thats all. other than me cart wheeling my bike and myself. My stepmom (the #1 fan) was pushing my bike off the track and I didn't want to end my first race off by a DNF I was finishing what I started. (i may have gotten lapped but I didn't care at that point because i was having fun). My second race was way better. It was at Mx207, beautiful track. I was on vaction and my dad drove down to southern Maine to make the morning races. I always wake up early on days off from school to get in as much time riding at my home track. I was dealing with some family issues and I was not in the right mindset. my preforamnce was not what I wanted it to be my head was not in the race, I did every single jump, I was not afraid to take the chances. My overall position was 14th in the c class. once again not happy with my position however i learned from my mistakes. Last year 2022 that was a big step for my skills. i got covid in the spring and it set me back for stamina i had built up over the years. I wanted to race, but i rode my home track almost every weekend. i got an oppertunity to race this is where I grew as a rider. Hemonds. I raced in the schoolboy class in the morning my favorite track so far. I scouted the track before i raced that morning. walked it and everything. had open practice and raced. I didn't do so well on my holeshots so I would cut through everyone and pass through them. stayed consistant throughout the race and kept a good place on both. kept the bike up as i was hammerig it. i got 7th overall 8th and 8th both motos to get 7th. this gave me the confidence to move forward with my racing career
