Personal History
My name is Garrett Kenny; I am 20 years old, a full-time college student that works part-time, and I am passionate about dirt bikes. I am not in racing for the money, I ride because dirt bikes keep me breathing, even when they bite. Motorcycles are my motivation for nearly everything I do each day. I am also on instagram: @garrettjames67
When I was a small child, my dad and my brother had 2 Honda Xr's. My father would place me on the gas tank and we would ride around the field near our house. After my brother lost interest in riding, the bikes were sold. Fast forward to age 13, I picked up a Dirt Rider Magazine and instantly got ahold of my dad and told him I was interested in trying out dirt bikes. Fortunately, we were lucky enough to be able to afford a couple of Yamaha tt-r 230s from Craigslist along wiht riding gear. My dad and I would go trail riding in the Sierra Nevadas and the Hollister Hills area. After I outgrew the 230, (and my dads pace) I traded it straight across for a 2001 Suzuki RM250. The difference in power and bike ability was daunting at first, but with practice I eventually learned to handle the two-stroke. I sold the bike and spent a year without any motorcycle in order to work and save money for a newer one. After the longest year of my life, I found a 2005 YZ 250. I replaced the suspension with updated sss suspension and rebuilt entire motor once and the top end multiple times. I sold that bike and picked up a clapped out 2008 Kawasaki Kx450f to which I rebuilt the top end and suspension. I ride this KX450F currently.
I spent 2 years working for for multi-time AMA road racing champion Rich Oliver at his motorcycle school: "Rich Oliver's Mystery School" in Prather, CA. During the week, I maintained and prepared the flat-track and off-road facility, as well as wrenched on the 40-strong fleet of Yamaha tt-rs. I currently live in San Diego, California in order to spend time riding the So-Cal soil.
I happen to perform all of my own mechanical work from suspension maintenance to wheel builds to full motor rebuilds. I am very particular about my motorcycle which is meticulously maintained in the comforts of my garage.
Riding Goals
I am an intermediate off-road racer with an interest in racing professionally. This year has been my first year actually racing any motorcycles. I have raced a couple of Enduro races including some WORCS races, which is a series I plan on competing in next year. I am looking to spend as much time in the saddle as I can in the next couple of years.
I spend a fair amount of time practicing flat-track, which is part of my job. I also attempt to make it to the motocross track at least once a week when work and money allow it. I exercise in the gym 5 times or more a week and maintain healthy eating habits.
I plan to participate in local and regional motocross races, as well as enduros, in the coming months, when work allows. I would also like to attempt to qualify for Loretta's when the time comes.
