Personal History
I started racing at approx. 16 years old and worked my way from beginner class to “A” class by the time I was 22 years old. I did not drastically improve until I started practicing with Pros of the highest caliber, when I truly started making great strides. Due to where I lived at time, I was able to practice, one on one, with Ricky Carmichael, Matt Walker, Broc Sellards, and other top name pros that would visit the tracks in Cairo, GA, and Applewhite’s practice track in Albany, GA. I was born and raised in Albany, GA. I now live in Middleburg, FL with approximately 5 Motocross tracks less than 50 miles from my home, WW Motocross Ranch being the closest to my home. I currently am a WW Motocross team member and my family members own Echeconnee motocross park. (both voted best tracks of the year in Playground magazine for 2017) I make new friends at every track I visit. I truly enjoy being apart of the motocross community.
This has been my second year back to racing from a 15-year absence. The first few months were struggle, but I soon began to regain some of my speed as Spring began last year. I had been practicing 3-4 times a week at WW Motocross doing 25 minutes moto maintaining constant lap times. Unfortunately, while competing in my second Loretta Lynn area qualifier, a rider got out of control crashing both of us as I was attempting to make a pass on him. It resulted in a dislocated shoulder, tearing almost every muscle that supports my shoulder including part of my bicep. This put me down for 6 weeks before I could attempt to ride again. Unfortunately, the first surgeon misdiagnosed how severe the shoulder injury was at the time.
Once I started back riding, I resumed wining races at the state level, but I knew I lost momentum for my goal of a top finish at Loretta Lynn amateur National. As luck would have it for me this year, 125 C was grouped together with 40+ for practice at Loretta Lynn Regionals. A 125 C rider took me down during the last practice. This crash knocked me unconscious resulting in a concussion and injuring my “good” shoulder. I continued on the next day despite my injuries. I don’t believe in giving up unless you can’t move. After Regionals I went for a second opinion on my left shoulder and also have surgeon look at my right shoulder. The left shoulder had been floating/ hanging approximately 3 inches out of socket since the accident according to the new surgeon and the right had a torn labrum and a separated AC joint. I had surgery on the left shoulder with 14 anchors placed (worst shoulder the surgeon had ever repaired according to him)
I almost won a Major AMA event last year, but let my nerves get the best of me. Within the first few months of my 15 year absence from riding a dirtbike, I won the series championship for +40 in the Florida Gold Cup. I also won two additional Series Championships here in Florida, while my arm was hanging 3 inches out of my shoulder socket! I’ve had some successes over the past couple of years, but not like I hoped for. It has now been close to a year of healing and hope we can continue on this path together. X
My wife and I are currently in the process of preparing to move to St. Louis Metro area. She just completed her Doctorate of Nursing practice as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner and is starting her career in the U.S. Air force. I am looking forward to racing on all new motocross tracks and promoting your products to another region of the motocross community while making new friends.
