Personal History
My name is Dominick Vandenberg, I am 21 years old and live in Orange County California. I come from a long history of dirt bike riders. My parents both worked for American Honda for 22 and 18 years. I lost my father at 9 years old to an accident at work and from what I have been told he was well respected within the industry, his name was Dirk Vandenberg. My mom (Donna Vandenberg) is the current Vice-Principal at JSerra High School. My Grandfather (Nick DeLeone) was also well known back in the day as he was one of the founders of Broncco Motorcycles also known in Europe as Fantic motorcycles. He also was Suzuki's Team Manager and even a team manager for Motocross De Nations. He signed Tony DiStefano to one of the biggest contracts of that time for team Suzuki.
Although, I haven't had the most normal up bringing and alot of my family does not like me being around motorcycles, I can not help it, it is in my blood and my father installed a pure passion and love for the sport when he first taught me how to ride. As a kid, I always wanted to be the next Jermey McGrath, now a days without having a father and a struggling economy racing has taken a back seat to school. School is my number one priority but now I am steady in school and ready to give racing a full shot. If I never make it as the next Jermey I am ok with that would like to be like my father who made a difference in the motorcycle industry any way I can.
I currently train once a week at all the local tracks such as Pala, Starwest, and Milestone with my trainer Mike Fedrow of SoCal Mx training.
I would love to have some sponsors to help my racing as well as build a relationship so that maybe one day I can be a contributor to their company!
Riding Goals
This year, my plan is race almost all of the District 37 Hare N Hound races, and some enduros. I am also looking to doing some motocross races, that my coach will pick out for me. But my main focus is to make a name for myself in the District 37 world this up coming year. I am also looking into doing some races like Barstow to Vegas.
I also have interest in possible competiting in a enduro-cross race or maybe even some worcs series races. My ultimate dream would be to win Baja!
Competitive Highlights
I would say my competitive highlights are not the best but I will promise you I will have much more in this next year. I won alot as a little pee-wee in races on my Honda QR-50 and then after my dad's accident, I went to high school like every other kid and played high school football. Where I earned awards like Defensive MVP and Most Inspirational. One Year I led the team in sacks, tackles for lost, and interceptions. Although I was a little undersized I played with the heart of a lion and was beyond the word dedication! But as schools came around to visit, they did not like my "FOOTBALL" size so I put down the helmet and picked up my motocross helmet after I graduated and so basically for 4 years I was off a bike due to football. But now I am back and more hungry than ever!
